Has anybody tried fitting an electric a/c compressor like this?
I'm thinking I could potentially replace the existing compressor with another alternator to provide the additional power required.
downsides
- running the A/C while driving would be less efficient (mechanical energy to electrical and back)
- I think this would only cool, not heat (a diesel heater may be a better option for this anyway)
upsides
-it'd keep working with auto stop-start
-I could keep the car cool while parked for relatively short periods (e.g. a trip to bunnings)
- I could pre-cool the car as I'm returning if I leave the car in the sun for a long time
Any other ideas/suggestions/potential issues most welcome
