DPF Dilemma and the van is stranded. Any ideas?

I just noticed in the last photo that the pipe is creased, probably from the torque applied to the sensors.
This will almost certainly develop into a crack later, you could get a patch welded in.
Have you checked the wall thickness after removing the rust scale, it looks like there isn’t much life left in it. By the time you get the boss and crease repaired, buy a tap to dress the thread and attempt to clean the DPF you may have wasted a lot of £ that could heve gone towards a new DPF.
 
The sensors before and after the DPF work out the pressure differential, and tell you if its blocked or not.

That photo tells nobody on the planet anything, however much of an expert they may or may not claim to be.
 
I thought it might not show anything but I was expecting it to be caked in the black stuff.

Since my last post, I went out with my leaf blower and blew through the pipe on full blast. No air from the otherside whatsoever.

When it comes to blockage It’s not just the soot which can be burnt with regeneration it’s the remaining ash after regen’, this cannot be displaced without careful back flushing and there’s no guarantee how much is going to be flushed out and whether the filter matrix will be damaged during flushing
 
I'm leaning towards hollowing it out completely and getting a reputable tuning company to put a DPF, AdBlue and EGR delete on so I know that its done.

I know the legalities of it, but I'm more concerned with what's best for the van as I haven't really been able to enjoy it yet.

Does this sound sensible? (Legal issues aside).
 
There have been many reported issues on the Forum.
Do you think it will pass the opacity test at MOT given the mileage?
 
The way I see it you have two choices:

1 New DFP and undo all the DPF delete (and other changes that have been made to get everything back as standard, so that the the DPF regens occur again, and not block the DPF again for a long time.

2 Go down the route of deleteing DPF, EGR etc, but get it done by a reputable garage, who will do it properly. Then hope that the MOT don't see any black smoke from the exhaust.

At least you don't have the added compexity of ADBlue as well and the issues thatcauses.
 
Personally I would fit a new dpf and put it all back to standard. Then you know you have a road legal van with no mot worries and it won’t be slowly killing people.
 
Any welding on the DPF will need to look OEM, not many garage mechanics who can weld any better than a seagull shits, shocking standard of welding at least in UK garages.

The option is technically impossible.
No reputable garage would want to do work that entails them breaking the law.

From what we see on forums and platforms like YouTube the deletions quite often lead to knock on issues. There are plenty of vehicles on the road as they left the factory and driving around without any issue. It’s totally possible. Bodging stuff rarely works.
 
Well, I've reached the end of my tether and therefore the point of no return as I hollowed the DPF as soon as I got home.

I started with a cold chisel and was making slow progress so whipped out the SDS drill with a chisel bit and it took me about 10 mins to clear it out.

This wouldn't have been my first choice, as I'd rather have bought a new DPF but simply can't afford one right now and didn't want to go for the cheapy ones, but I'm going to save up for a genuine one in case I ever get my collar felt and forced to replace it.

I'm going to get it welded back up by a proper fabricator and then have it tuned by a racing company that I know of.

My question until then is, now that I've chosen this route, do I also need to hollow out the rear section of the DPF? i.e, the section after the weld seam?
