Door Seal Rust

It seems bonkers (and disappointing!) that some get it easily and others are refused - I guess that all the warranty requests from dealers are done in one central VW place that covers the whole of the UK, or is it split in to regions?

Hello Tim, did you escalate this to the service manager? I only ask because I’ve had a few issues with warranty claims and other bits at Lookers Carlisle but once I’d involved the service manager things improved greatly and he restored my faith in the dealership.

Thanks @LakesT6 - I didn't, even though I queried it with them they seemed quite adamant, and I figured that VW might have changed their policy if they were replacing them a lot... but now I know that others are still managing to get it changed then I'll go back and ask again.

I’d give them another go, the man you need to speak to is the service manager. The last few times I’ve dealt with them it’s been Iain Haselhurst and I couldn’t fault him. Good luck!

My van is at the dealer and they say it's not covered under warranty. Called VW Customer Service and spoke to an utter knob there who said all I can do is try another dealer! Unbelievably bad service, boils my blood!!

Out of curiosity does anyone know of any after-market suppliers of the seal? Tried to look online but I can't get past that extra seal you can buy for the doors. If I can get elsewhere I can tell VW to poke themselves!

Interesting - the passenger side on ours has just failed and as the van is due a service it's been mentioned when booking in for early August. VW Van centre in Edinburgh. I'll report back in due course.

Just had the same issue. 17 reg 20k miles campervan conversion. Spotted the rust and thought bodywork problem. Took the van to VW commercial Inchcape Manchester. Had mixed message. Warranty team said, without even looking, that this would not be covered. Parts guy when he looked thought this should be warranty but not for him to say. Had a few problems like this he said. Quote for repair ,circa £230. Local VW specialist non franchise £150. Spoke with VW customer service couldn’t accept liability. VW Manchester phoned back. Story is- it’s a dealership decision . Some will accept it and some won’t. If you can take your van to a different dealer you may get s different decision. Not good from VW actually pile of sh1t. This will now go in writing to VW uk

Well, wish I’d done mine before the vehicle became 3 years old! Think I’ve just gone over that now and it’s only just made me think it would of been warranty. I’m so used to just getting stuff fixed!

I’ve just had my driver’s side door seal replaced under warranty - no quibbling.

I took mine in to my dealer (Lookers in Carlisle) last month with the same issue, and even when I told them that I knew other people had had them replaced under warranty they told me they'd asked VW and had been told that they couldn't do it under warranty - they claimed it was just because it is the area it is normally stood on when getting in and out, and that if I wanted it sorted I'd have to buy a new one at over a hundred quid.... Not chuffed...

Is anyone else in the North West that's had it replaced under warranty, so I can go to that dealer instead?

Sorry just saw this post. We also took ours to Lookers, Carlisle. They said the same. We asked for contact number at VW head office as we’d like an explanation as to why some garages covered this under warranty and others weren’t. Especially as it was a known issue. They came back to us saying they had checked again as it was covered under warranty. So Lookers Carlisle did cover it eventually, but not without some resistance.

Drivers side door seal split by the step.
Read that some have had it done under warranty.
No rust on mine yet but the split will only ever get worse. 2 year old t6.
Is it worth pushing the local dealer for a warranty claim.??

No looks fine. not dirty or perished.
Just noticed it lumping up a bit. Rolled it back to investigate and noticed the seal split,, about a couple of inches. Thought about just glueing it but the vans still a bit new for that.

Very easy, sometimes getting the trim to align can be a little tricky though.
