Do I need a new DSG clutch?

We’ve had our T6 auto 2.0 diesel since the start of the summer. It’s got about 170k miles on it and a partial service history.

There have been patches of oily liquid under it when parked sometimes and then about 3 weeks ago it lost gears on the way home, went into limp mode, stuck in first gear, over-revving with a spanner icon in the corner of the digital display in the dash.

First step was took it to local well regarded van garage and they said it needed a gearbox service, gear oil replacement and new oil filter. Cost about £300. Had that done and he suggested in time it may also need a new clutch. Seemed to run ok on collection.

Cut to two days after I got it back and the van did the same thing, overrevving, stuck in first gear limp mode, flashing spanner icon. The garage are taking a look after Xmas but he said that he thinks it’ll need a new clutch.

Does that sound like the correct diagnosis? Is there anything else that might be causing this problem?

What kind of price are people paying for a new clutch for a DSG auto gearbox in a T6?

NB: I’m a van noob so if anything above is nonsense that’s probably on me and not on the garage’s explanation. Thanks!

What were the fault codes?
It sounds like the gearbox is leaking oil and is so low the oil pump is picking up air causing a hydraulic failure. The oil level is critical in these gearboxes, so much so it must be within a small band of temperature when filling.
