Wanted to continue to maximize storage space and utility in the rear of my kombi, so I made a low level centre console from 9mm ply incorporating a small tambour door and a double cup holder from a Mokka rear seat armrest.

Its mostly for travelling as there is only ever 2 in the rear seats.

Very nice. I like that a lot. Where did you source the door and cup holder please.

I like that @.50 .....always on the look out for storage ideas especially for the back of my kombi....tell us more!

The Tambour door came from ebay and was £28.00.

The cup holder came from the rear centre arm rest of a Vauxhall Mokka,s seats which I was scrapping.

They are hard to come by on their own, but you could easily use a couple of single, 'insert' type ones instead.

The box was made using 9mm ply and I cut some corner profile from a piece of 75x75 softwood so it didn't look to boxy.

The outside was then carpet lined and the inside had 1mm rubber glued to the sides and cheap, rubber backed floor mat from Ikea, stuck to the bottom.

The top was cut from a bit of 15mm MDF and the apertures were then cut in it and routed.

I then primed the top before finishing it in several coats of Halfords, Anthracite wheel paint.

I understand it may not be everyone's cup o tea, but, for me, it utilises another fairly dead space in the van aswell as giving the rear passengers somewhere to put their drinks.

That’s brilliant mate, I’ve been looking for something like that to fit in between the front seats and might try to copy that if that’s okay

Absolutely !!.

Its really just a plywood box.

The Tambour door kit is quite expensive for what it is, but it super nifty and if my passengers want bigger bottles of water than the cup holders can take, I can just roll the door back a bit and stand them in the box.

thanks, not a chippy but will give it a go.

What an excellent idea! @.50 did you have that carpet made for the floor of the back row? Cheers

Hi there.
That is just a cheap rubber backed hall runner mat off ebay cut to fit.

Its really easy to cut, and just tucks under the adjacent trims.

Love this idea. Might make a slide out version which slides out from under the rear seats as quite often theres 3 in the back
