Bloody crankcase seal gone twice in a few days and garage shut until the 4th ! Oil pissing out. Chewing gum ?
F....

I'll take some pic's in the light. It's the timing belt side. Same seal that was replaced. Hopefully the specialist vw garage will replace again without trying to pull It's the other side stunt or the likes. Bloody annoying as can't use van for 2 weeks.

What mileage does the van have on it? A new seal wouldn`t leak unless incorrectly fitted or the Druk ring (crank ring) had a wear groove in it.

Hi Al.
90.000 miles.
I've looked after the Engine. Serviced earlier than the recommended mileage. Never thrashed.

I would get them to check that the ring isn`t worn when the `next` oil seal is fitted. You shouldn`t be able to feel a groove in it with your fingernail, if so I would change it. It could of been fitted incorrectly too!

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully the specialist vw centre will be on the case after xmas.

Another seal fitted but there's a noise and maybe excess play in the crank !
How much for new crankshaft bearings !!!

Sound dubious. Who’s done the diagnosis? A noise can be from any number of components on a running engine.

He is going to drive the van more tomorrow and get back to me. Am i right in thinking if there is excessive play that the seal won't hold ?

What sort of noise ? Not as easy as just saying crank bearings, the crank would need inspection first and measuring to check it’s ok or need machining

I have to say it’s not a common thing tbh unless you’ve had engine issues before as in water in oil, low oil engine running, cheap oil or oil pump problems

The last vag engine that I remember having crank bearing issues was the petrol in the Skoda octavia vrs but that was due to carbon build up in the oil strainer and blocking it and starving the crank

Did you notice the noise before this lot of work ?
Hi Niknak
No. Not really but you don't listen hard to the engine all the time. Could the losing oil of done damage ? I knew straight away kept topping it up for the few runs I did. Oil light never came on either.
Can damage be done in doing the work ? Is it possible to f.... it up ?
It does seem noisy at the moment. Especially when reving around 3000rpm.

He also said the euro 5 is very reliable. I'm hoping it's something not so serious.
