Can You Open A T6 Tailgate With A Thule 927 Tiltable Bike Carrier

We have a T6 and I'll be honest - It's a huge faff loading 4 bikes onto our Fiamma tailgate mounted bike carrier.... and then it takes the strength of 7 people to open the boot. I'm thinking of fitting a towbar and getting a Thule 927 tiltable bike carrier (we're keeping the T6 for ever :) so it's worth the investment). Has anyone actually done this, and if so... Does the tailgate clear the bike... or not ! Thanks

Doesn't on ours. I think there is a rack that slides away from the vehicle and then tilts that will allow you to open the tailgate, cant remember the name/make but sure I saw pics of it on here somewhere.

I have the 929 euro and that tilts enough to open the tailgate loaded with bikes but its a 3+1 rack

I’ve just got the Atera Strada DL 3 carrier - has a slide mechanism which allows the fully loaded bike rack to be moved back and allow the tailgate to open. It’s tight on the tow bar I have (westafalia detachable) but works well. It’s a 3 bike carrier with optional extension to allow a 4th bike, comes with light bar and electric socket adaptor in case you need it.

Mines a Thule 941 2-bike on a Westfalia removeable and you cant open the tailgate, but it only takes seconds to unclamp it and lower the whole thing.

Thanks all. I couldn't find a Thule 929?? I have taken the plunge and have a tow bar and Thule 939 + 4th bike extension coming next week. Seems like this is the best chance as it has the biggest tilt angle according to the Thule website. "Easy trunk access with bikes mounted, thanks to smart foot pedal tilt. Even very large rear doors can be opened due to wide tilt angle". Fingers crossed as it was blooming expensive

Hi JS,
How did you get on with the 939? Does the tailgate open?

Sorry to reignite this one. My reasearch has narrowed me down to the ProUser Diamante SG2, Atera Genio Pro and the Thule Easy Fold (939). They all seem to be the same price wise apart from the Atera. In particular PF Jones are doing the Thule for £479 so that levels the field nicely

So the big question for me is tailgate clearance. I have a flange towbar, so I can fix a motorcycle rack, that sits about 70mm from the centre of the ball to the bumper and 165mm from the tailgate itself. From the post above it is suggested that the Easy Fit would clear. Any opinions on whether this might work for me welcomed, thanks

Failiing that...
Phone some bike specialists and see if they have the racks in store for you to try on your vehicle to see if itll work - then pay the poor bastards the price you have found plus a tenner for giving you the courtesy of trying before you buy that no online retailer can offer - or a tiny bit more. Offer to buy some drinks bottles or something :) - That ethic has worked so many times for me over the past couple years.

Here’s an alert for everyone. The Easy Fold is available from Halfords at £509. If you have a British Cycling membership you get 10% discount. If you are not a member it’s worth joining as it will still Be cheaper than PF Jones and you’ll get a joining gift, like a set of brilliant lights and insurance for a year Join British Cycling

Im off down there tomorrow.

The Thule 939 works a treat and the tailgate clears it comfortably

Hi, would you happen to have links to the rack (939?) and the additional piece for 4th bike? Have just got a T6 and I don't think the Atera Strada will take my bike (plus I like Thule stuff!). Many thanks!
