Not the usual bike carrier question - Security?

Any OEM lock on any bike rack is useless. In my mountain bike club there have been 3 incidents down the years where bikes have been taken off bike racks using just the OEM lock. Two at motorway service stations and one on a campsite during the night.

During the campsite incident 9 bikes in total were taken. All high end full suspension bikes. My bike was locked to one of the van wheels using a kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit chain and wasn't taken. Something did half wake me, which I realised the following morning was them moving the bike and then leaving it.

I always use an additional heavy cable lock from bike to rack and if I visit a service station or a shop and the bike is on the rack and not in the van I add D-locks and run the kryptonite new york chain down to the towing eye while I go inside and then take it off when I leave..
