Best Fuel Economy

hi everyone

Can anyone please shed some light on getting the best fuel economy out of my Caravelle

Someone suggested setting the cruising mode to on but not noticed any difference

Currently getting about 400 miles to a full 70litee tank, whereas others including the garage suggested I should get around 550

Contemplating having her remapped but concerned about warranty issues, clearly putting right something that goes wrong is pretty costly out of warranty

Caravelle is 2.0 Auto Dsg 150

Thanks in advance

In the MFD there is an option to turn coasting function on. When you take your foot off the accelerator, it disengages the drive from the engine to the gearbox. So theres no engine breaking, allowing you to free wheel or coast.

The engine is re engaged if you press the brake, select a gear manually or put it in sport. Its designed to save fuel, as the vans inertia isn't dissipated through the pumping losses associated with having to turn an internal combustion engine.

My 150 DSG gets a pretty consistent 530 miles a tankful, 400 does seem low. Pretty sure that coasting is the default setting, with an option to turn it off on the MFD for those who don’t like it.

Have put the coasting on and all it seems to do is decrease speed very rapidly, unless I’m going downhill

You mean it just coasts ha

Essentially it decreases speed at a lesser rate than if in gear. Each day I do a full mile long stretch of road in coast and from 60mph I can get all the way without going under 50mph

Fyi - My record is 673 for a tank but get 550 all day long.

Something clearly not right my end, so many people clearing the 500 mark

Out of interest yours is motorway mileage? And average speed?

To get “good” return I sit in lane 1 at 50mph and watch everyone pass me, watching my satnav destination time Increase rather rapidly, gone are the days where I play “beat the satnav” lol

My mileage is now around 80% motorway and being totally honest I rarely go above 70mph and due to ave speed cameras can do large spells at 50mph.

The only time I go fast is when a good song comes on lol

I miss not caring about mpg tbh - its the only thing making me think about a 335d next. Id take sh1t mpg if it was a rocketship ha

It’s the only thing making me regret buying my Caravelle, and consider selling it on already, just 6 weeks in!!

Pig is garage told me 45mpg

Will lose a bundle of cash if I try to sell it back to them, rock and hard place at moment lol

I just drive mine normally, 80-85 and no mor. If I sat in lane 1 and stuck to 50, as in av speed area, I can get well over 40mpg. But I really don't care, anything over 30mpg is fine by me so I don't really pay it any attention

If it helps with your concerns I normally get 350 out of a full tank which at the moment is costing about £98ish to fill to the brim from empty. Bear in mind I’m a window cleaner carry 500 ltrs of water and stoping and starting all day long with no real runs.
But on a run to Scotland last September I got 690 miles out of a full tank :)

Remember there are two fuel tank sizes available for the T6. 70 and 80 litre. Different horsepower outputs and manual or DSG gearboxes. Euro 5 and Euro 6 engines. LWB and SWB and so on. Some folk will be quoting the figure displayed on the MFD as their MPG and not doing the manual calculation. So the fuel economy picture can look a little muddied.

My 150 DSG only gets 400 miles from a tank of fuel before the light comes on.

I drive it like Miss Daisy and its always empty of any load.

Its the single biggest dissapointment about the van.

I am genuinely stunned at how people with the same engine power are bombing around at 70mph and the van has a full camper conversion are claiming 40mpg.

We get this from our 204 DSG Panel Van . . . .

(70% load in back) (70ltr tank) with stop/start on.

with a varied mix of city and motorway way driving. . . . .

18 - 26 mpg average

and

330 - 380 mile per tank average
