Battery drain in my T6

Hi

New to the forum. Just bought a 2017 T6 startline TSI after years of T5 ownership.

Was perfect on the drive home.

Noticed when I got home that the previous owner had all of the interior lights switched to the off position.
Didn’t think too much of it so switched them to the on when the doors are open position.

Next day I go for a drive and the dash is lit up like a Christmas tree. Abs, esc lights, auto start stop not working brake fault etc….

Took it for a long drive and all the dash problems started to go away till I was left with no fault lights.

Plugged one of them Carly odb diagnostic tools in borrowed off bro in law. Shows a load of faults relating to under voltage.

Decide to turn the interior lights back to the off position. And it’s fine for a couple of days. No dash fault lights.

Thought I’d start with the cab interior light. Switched it to the on when doors open position again. Left it like that a day. Same thing, abs, esc fault lights etc….

Noticed that the cab interior light is warm to touch considering it hasn’t been on.

So I’m assuming somehow that is the problem. Took it out and had a look at it but it looks like brand new. No obvious looking fault.

Could it just be something as simple as a faulty light or could it be something more worrying?

Thanks

Jody

The interior lights are switched via the earth, have the bulbs been replaced with LEDs or has some extra auxiliary wiring been added to the lights, a +ve tap? try taking the bulb out and then putting the light to the "normal" position & see what happens. Depending on how clever your Carista is, it may show you the parasitic battery drain, you could switch the lights in turn to see what happens when.

Another thing when exiting the vehicle the mfd in the clocks do all the doors show closed?

Thanks for the replies.

The mfd does show that all the doors are closed.

The bulbs are normal filament bulbs. The van is just a bog standard commercial van that doesn’t look like it’s had a single thing altered from the factory.

The light operates as it should. The bulbs turn on and off as they should with the doors opening and closing

The Carly does have a parasitic drain function. You leave it connected to the odb for 24 hours and then tells you what’s what.

I did that with the light switches to off and it showed that the battery was good and there was nothing draining it.

I’ll try it again with the cab light switched to normal - see what happens to the results then

Just thought of something else though.

The nearside sliding door sometimes does not open when you press the fob. Sometimes you have to press it a couple of times and then it opens.

The Carly shows a fault code Dtc_03303 feedback locked position rear left
I assume that is what that is.

I suppose maybe that could be related couldn’t it.

The Carly shows a fault code for this as Dtc_03303 feedback locked position rear

Has it got barn doors? I'm sure that refers to the left barn door. Common for the outer handle to stick especially if not used much.

Yes it has got barn doors
They do open every time though without a problem. The hinges definitely feel stiff though like they haven’t been used much
