That is surely going to depend on what type of hob you have, and what gas they have appropriate jets for. Is there a data plate or perhaps instructions? Also what sort of fitting for the gas bottle ( a picture would be helpful)
Or equally could be calor gas. Both calor and camping gaz are propane/butane mixes. Like I say if you show a picture of the connector in the metal box we should be able to tell which type it is.
You can use either as long as you use the correct regulator. Butane theoretically burns cleaner than propane, but I’ve never been able to tell the difference tbh. Propane will vaporise at lower temperatures, so is better for cold weather use. Camping Gaz is widely available both here in the UK & on the continent, but it’s hideously expensive. We use a Gaslow system which uses autogas LPG. Costs around a fiver to fill & lasts all season with heavy use.
Cold temperatures will have an adverse affect on a pure Butane supply (boiling point -2C), a Propane/Butane mix or pure Propane (boiling point -42C) is better for cold climates.
LPG is a mix of Butane and Propane and most gas appliances designed for the leisure market will use any of the available gases with no modifications necessary.
