Alarm-sounder stainless-steel box

After sound deadening the scuttle area the alarm sounders stainless steel box doesn’t fit. I removed the box and the alarm sounder fits snugly.
Does anybody know the reason the box is fitted as standard? Is there is an issue with water tight integrity of this alarm sounder, or is it to protect a potential thief killing the audible alarm with a screwdriver before breaking in?

my guess would be to meet the Thatcham category, it must be vandal proof.

It’s a pretty robust box so I suspect as Loz says it’s designed to take a beating and survive. I’ll extend the harness and re-fit the box in an equally inaccessible place.
