A comfy nights sleep? Help

Great Shout!! thanks @TheGrapeEscape
We've got a full width RIB (130cm) that we've tried many different ways of making sleeping bearable and we purchased and tried one of the Trail SIMs at the weekend.
It was very comfortable :) It was great being able to move in the morning, instead of feeling like you'd slept on a pile of broken bricks!

..the only 2 (minor, unforseen) issues we now have are:

1, We lost a few cm of headroom due to the SIM thickness so no sitting up in bed (standard tin-top) - need to try it on a lower level of inflation or get a pop-top.
2, (Due to the above the headroom issue) the SIM slid forward up against the front seats as we were shuffling on/off the bed - we were on a bit of a slope which didn't help.

So, absolutely would recommend the SIM and getting a comfortable nights sleep :)
Regarding the SIM sliding forward I can recommend this:

We have the 113 RIB and use a 5cm SIM and the poptop foam mattress on top. This works well but we had a fitted sheet specifically for the bed so it was really difficult to put the sheet over all of it (fitted mattress protector too but this is more roomy). We just bought this sheet to replace the fitted one and it works really well, you just adjust the toggles to fit once and then it holds it all together each time it’s fitted

Bed comfort is a big thing and key to happy trips as poor sleep is a killer as many in this thread are all to aware of.
I have just gone through a refoaming exercise of our Reimo 3000 bed as the boss was suffering with bad sleep. The original foam in the rear of the seats was like concrete. First step was trying the 2cm foam from the pop top which helped a little but no cigar. We were then gifted a 5cm panda mattress which was close but still not quite right (was ok for me though!).
The problem was we were filling up the back of the van with foam. I took the radical decision to unzip the rear of the seat sections and remove the original hard foam. I then cut the 2cm and 5cm to match the original size and squeezed them into the seat pockets. To level this out we added a 2cm gold Duvalay rolled over the top and voila! The boss is happy now that she has 3 layers of foam/toppers totalling 10cm but with minimal consumption of storage space.

We use Slothie toppers. When away with the lad only we use the 2.5cm on the RIB.

Son 14 happy (adult height / weight) sleeps well - you can’t get him up till 12pm.. Me it does my hips and back in.

Last weekend away and wife onboard, so I decided to sleep in poptop for first time - on 2.5cm - best night sleep in van yet - I could stretch out, move into best position and woke with no hip or back pain.

So consider is it your sleeping position causing the issues.

I’ve not ventured into the pop top yet as it looks very ‘solid’ as ours doesn’t have those flat plastic springy thingies. I think even a 2.5cm might struggle to provide a degree of comfort. Is your pop top solid or sprung?

Hi

Mine is a flat stiff board (had the 2.5 mm mattress up there), For me it was getting into a similar position to how I sleep at home (on my front /slightly sideways - could spread out arms and legs) and not trying to be nice giving up room by sleeping more on my side . On the RIB it was more about accommodation of bodies to fit between side and cupboard the other side - this felt luxury 😂. Maybe give it a go (I was surprised).

You’re selling it. I definitely agree you do compromise when sharing the bed, even subconsciously when asleep which is maybe why we wake a lot. I think I’ll pinch the Duvalay tonight and give it a go. 🤞

We are going to try the top bed for the first time this weekend… have the springs plus a 5cm premium high density foam mattress (cut to fit) plus the 5cm topper that came with the Cali t6.1. Will report back next week re how it went…
That sounds positively palatial, maybe even too squishy but rather that way than too hard

She wouldn’t give up the Duvalay so I didn’t get the chance to test it.
What this week did prove was that putting a 2cm memory foam and 5cm Panda in the back of the Reimo bed was too much. The flat surface was no longer flat, more 3 sections of domed squishiness. It also collapsed too much to the point of being uncomfortable.
So plan now is to revert back too original foam to get back the flat supportive but too hard surface. We will order a new 5cm Duvalay and run with that. Whether we hi for the softer silver or firmer gold version is still to be decided.
The new Duvalay comfort will go in the pop top for evaluation but I suspect it might be too thin on a solid board.
I do think you are correct in that sleeping position is a big factor so will explore sleeping up top, even if it means getting another 5cm Duvalay to go up top. I may have a 5 use Duvalay compact hitting eBay soon.
I can’t believe how difficult this camper sleeping malarkey is!!!

Tried the new set up… fantastic! Got down to 4 degrees overnight but the diesel heater worked a treat too on setting 6.
Sounds like you have cracked it Keith although were did you test it that was 4 degrees! 🥶
I refitted the original foam yesterday and have a Duvalay 5cm gold winging its way to sit on top which will hopefully meet with the wife’s approval. I’ll try it in the pop top to see how good it is and whether it might be an option. If it is then I will need to do a custom order as we have a bifold board and folding may be an issue so will get a custom 3 section made. I measured the gap between the board and the pop top and we have 9cm so could look at additional measures, maybe even retrofit froli springs if they do a shallow version??

We were in Toogoolawah, Queensland where the weather beautiful (clear blue skies and temps between 4 and 20 degrees at the moment). Our top bunk bed set up is the 5cm high density foam sitting on the factory springs. We add the factory 5cm topper when we pop the top, and store it in a roof pod when travelling (we can’t store it in the bunk area when the pop top is down because there is no room for anything beyond one 5cm mattress). Slept again in it last night… 9 hour sleep which is not too shabby!

I think we’ve 💯 nailed the comfy sleep.
We hired a couple times before buying and quickly concluded sharing plus a large cockapoo - had to be full width RIB!.
Then splashed out on the thickest (8cm) stee free topper which trifolds beautifully in a bag and sits on the RIB shelf for storing. We sleep like logs, probably better than at home. 🥳

Has anyone used a short mattress topper? My rationale being main contact points being from the shoulders to the hips ? I've been Ikea today and noticed their baby cot mattresses might suffice to save space, especially as we have 2 single beds in the Vivante. The other alternative was some dog bed mattress things in Decathlon, similar size. I don't think my legs and feet would notice if didn't have the additional padding

Not sure what my wife would say about using a dog bed!

Also these are intended for use with much less weight so surely you would end up in the dog house either way!

I think you are correct, especially if you are a side sleeper.

We have 5cm Duvalays and I will find it not enough on my hips. Have tried additional blankets but thinking about different options, including shorter SIMs in addition.

Mrs CAB doesn't have an issue, but mostly sleeps on her back.
