Nice looking wheels. You're going to get asked what the tyre and wheel load ratings are. It would be worth adding that info....
I see the tyres are 97Y XL.

There seems to be varying opinions on that across the forums. The wheels / tyres were put on by a well known camper conversion company who are affiliated with insurance companies etc who are fully aware of the exact wheels installed......

730kg, is that even enough for a T28?

No:

T28 total. 2,800 kg
Front axle. 1,600kg
Rear axle. 1,550 kg

I think I’ll make a call to the conversion company this morning!
They may tell you that your van isn’t at its weight limit so all is fine.. tell them that VOSA won’t see it like that, and they may change their tune. Good luck.

Just off the phone to www.yourcamper.co.uk who completed the conversion with the 20” wheels / tyres shown above. They are adamant that the 97 load rated tyres provided are suitable for my van (VW T6 2018 2800kg, 4900kg, 1. 1550kg 2. 1550kg). The salesman simply divided the 2800kg by 4 which I advised was not the correct means of calculating the load. He was happy to tell me that the rating of 97 was acceptable over the phone but refused to put it in writing which begs the question why not. I’m so disappointed at the service provided after shelling out £36k for a van which was supposed to be converted by a well established company.

To be honest if I was you I would insist on them changing the tyres / alloys to load rated and say your quite happy to get trading standards involved as that is a serious safety issue / making insurance void

I bought my T32 Kombi from VW a year ago, and after buying and learning on this forum all sorts, I found out that the tyres that were on my 19’s were not load rated for a T32, they actually had replaced 2 of the tyres, and they also put its first MOT on the van also, they argued with me, then I popped something on Twitter to VW commercial who DM’d me immediately confirming the correct load rating and asked who had been telling me different, and said to show them the DM’s. Wasn’t long before it was all sorted after showing the sales rep the discussions! Definitely don’t let them get away with it!

As others have said, the conversion company are wrong! You should divide the axle weight by 2 to give you the required load rating. That’s 775 if your weight plate says 1550, so you need a minimum 99 rating. Push for them to change the tyres, they have sold you a van that in the eyes of the law isn’t roadworthy.

Hi everyone, update on the illegal tyres saga.

I spent 40 minutes arguing with the staff of www.yourcamper.co.uk this evening, funnily enough the salesman in question did finally admit that his initial method of calculation was wrong (worrying that he sells camper vans and for a living) and that the tyres were illegal, unfortunately he couldn’t go as far as to stomach an apology.
The owner was finally sent out to speak to me, for some reason he still persisted that a load rating of 97 was fine even though he had no idea as to how this was calculated. Once I quoted the regs and demonstrated the calculation in front of him he seemed to change tact a little.

I quoted the sales of goods act and reminded www.yourcamper.co.uk that I was entitled to a full refund or the tyres replaced for legal ones.
For some reason your camper only wanted to offer me £350 and then £450. I reminded the staff that I was also entitled to a refund of the VAT I paid on the wheels on purchase. For some reason the owner of www.yourcamper.co.uk thinks that as I am not a business I am not entitled to a refund of the VAT on the initial purchase????

After some healthy debate and mention of Trading Standards intervention the manager finally agreed to refund me the VAT I paid on the wheels at purchase (DUH).

After the challenges of last nights phone conversations and today’s drama on the forecourt I would not recommend this company to anyone. The aftercare has been horrendous. The companies customer service has given me no reason to sugar coat this message.
The company have 6 vans on their forecourt with illegal tyres all ready for sale right now. The only vans with legal tyres on the forecourt are vans with original VW wheels (this is a clue that you are doing something wrong www.yourcamper.co.uk).
Sadly I have a 12 month warranty on the conversion provided by the company, no surprises to say that I have no faith in any aftercare now.

Thanks to forum members for taking the time to share knowledge, without your info I may have allowed these people to pull the wool over my eyes and baffle me with BS!!!!!!!
