Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

We got to Camping Au Bord de l'Aisne in Guingicourt, just north of Reims earlier today - 26¢ with leccy ACSI price. It's a nice site that we've used many times (going back to tenting days) and it's less that 3 hours from Calais which after an early start is long enough. There's a decent restaurant on site which would be the go to if it wasn't for an excellent bistro in the town which does a lovely steak frites and a range of brews.
Onwards to somewhere between here and Provence tomorrow.

Just landed at Dover, got bumped onto the earlier ferry, oh dear, never mind.
1600hrs crossing to Dunkirk then, don’t mind if I do.

....and not long after we got back from a walk along the river and got cuppa made, this little beauty turned up.- I've seen plenty around but never with a camper conversion. I got chatting with the Dutch couple who owned it and they said how much they loved it and gave me a quick tour. I suspect it would be a bit too small for my taste and there wasn't an awful lot of storage but I've go to say it did look very nice indeed.

That's the future... well apart from being a retro splitty right down to the physical size of the vehicle... makes you wonder how they managed in the 60s without all the obligatory crap we have these days?

A pleasant 3 and a half hour tootle up from Northern Paris to Ypres, or Leper or Ieper. Such a pretty town and the 8pm Last Post daily ceremony was very well attended.
We turned up on spec at Urban Gardens, Leper for an overnight stay on a very well maintained campsite with excellent facilities.
A 45 minute hop back into France tomorrow 'Camping Vouban' awaits with a couple of forum friends!

Stayed overnight at Gravelines near Dunkirk. Lovely little town with some nice bars and a great kebab shop.
Anyway, woke up to a lovely sunny day. Going to have a stroll to the beach this morning then off to Bergues later.

Camping Tournos on the banks of the river Soane, surprisingly just outside Tournos - a typical french town with not much going on except for quiite a few bars with outside seating where the locals all seem to be throwing back wine - sun's out and the temperature hovering around 30. I know the country has a lot of problems but I do sometimes think the people have life well sussed! No picture as I left my camera behind when we went walking and the pitch is nothing out of the norm.

A gentle 45 minute drive from Ypres to Bergues in France to stay at Camping Vauban with a forum friend awaiting our arrival!
Nice beer in a local hostilary followed by vino at the camp.
Tomorrow a convoy to Amsterdam for weekend jollity and perhaps a bevvy or three!

We're now at Camping Du Lavandi on the outskirts of Orange. After setting up (including the Debus for the first time this trip), we took a slow stroll in the heat of the sun to have a look at the Roman triumphal arch (probably built at the command of Augustus) which is a very impressive sight. There's other roman stuff here, not least an amphitheatre which is on the agenda for tomorrow. When we got back to the van, it was a bit warm inside.

The Theatre Antique at Orange is a great site.
We bumped into Kevin McCloud in the gift shop !
The Cure played a legendary gig there back in the '80's......check out the start to the video.....

Coniston CAMC.

Came via Ambleside, because I hate the narrow bits on the route North from the Barrow Road, but it's still a bugger to drive, Mrs CAB had cramp in her hand from gripping the door handle!

A good 4 hour drive from Bergues, via Carrefour in Dunkirk (to collect liquid supplements, and posh fuel at €2.11) onward to Amsterdam.
We are at a delightful site, Camping Vliegenbos, a short metro ride to central Amsterdam with its various activities!
828.8 miles travelled since leaving Blighty, every one worth it for this site and the forum friends who made it too.
All 5 of the vans gears have worked to perfection, it's been a great trip and now 4 days to chill before a couple of nights trusting to search for sites on the return leg next week.
