Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

Gone for a cheeky one night stay at The Quiet Site near Ullswater. Darby enjoyed the few pints and pizzas we had in The Quiet Bar last night.

Just having a final brew before heading out for a morning walk up Gowbarrow Fell.

Wow thats somewhere on the list for me, how did you find the stay, were you able to 'not cook' on site, as i fancy using it to test out the van at some point without prehaps cooking. Cheers Ali

Nice! Tidy bike too. Very near my home patch in Whaley Bridge. Great MTB rides around here. Probably done them all over the years.
We ride from Whaley Bridge quite often, either from Fernilee or the big layby at the bottom of long hill.
Riding from Eyam tomorrow over to Stoney Middleton and Baslow.

It's a great site; a bit pricey, but at this time of year not too bad. If you don't want to cook/ eat in the van, there's a well equipped and warm campers kitchen.

Thank you for the info I will definitely try it as a test bed for camper vanning. Being new to it all, I'll probably see you about as were not far from eachother. Cheers Ali

It's a great site with excellent facilities and a bar on site, often with live music at the weekends, plus a small cafe that does pizzas in the evening and breakfast rolls and brews in the mornings. Grumbled a bit at paying £6 a pint but after I'd sunk one or two it didn't seem to matter quite as much!

Probably a good option if you're looking for a 'dry run' to test out your van with some excellent walks from the door. The Brackenrigg Inn is about a mile and half walk away if you prefer a pub tea rather than pizza of an evening. It's uphill all the way back though!

Great advice , I'll certainly give it a go , thank you the heads up. Cheers Ali

JCT 600 Sheffield...

Had these light the dashboard up:

IMG_4665.webpIMG_4666.webpIMG_4667.webp

All found to be the fault of the NSR ABS sensor.
Being replaced under the "All in Plan", that expires in 5 weeks time.
The van will be 7 years young then.

That's low mileage for a 7 Yr old !
You need to retire and get out more John ;)
@Sackmycook - If I had been a copper, I would have retired by now, but the working of a contractor in the construction industry does not allow the same pension funds, I'm afraid.
So I changed from the worksite to a 5 day a week office job a few years ago.
:)

But...
As of this month, I've dropped a day of work & another is a guaranteed WFH day.
Just 3 days a week in the office now.
Then - the young 'un leaves home for adventures new.
Hopefully, I'll be fully retired before the big 6-0
:D
We'll have more time then for camping & adventures new, putting additional mileage on the T6.
Exciting times ahead, me thinks!!

My elder brother took early retirement at 61, we have watched him go downhill health wise since then, his funeral is next Monday. As much as I hate hitting the road on 2 wheels to avoid Birmingum traffic 5 days a week, I will carry on until I'm 67. He turned 66 late December and didn't get to see his first state pension payment. Life's a bitch etc... My mother, on the other hand, is 96 this year, beaten cancer 3 times, never worked a day in her life! Go figure!

So sorry to hear this Wayne - our family thoughts are with you.
It's a big decision to stop working & retire, but for us it's the right thing to do.
We've lost a few close, young family & friends over the last few years & the choice has been made to have more "us together" time.
Yes, we'll lose our 2 x wages, but making good memories is way more important.
Health wise - who knows what's around the corner.
I might get hit by a big red bus tomorrow...

If I could afford to retire I would. Chris will retire before me and has said I need to work for two years after she retires to make it fair 🤔. Our mortgage is finished in 17 months, assuming we’re still alive Chris will retire and I’ll wind down towards retirement. I’ve already dropped my paid work to 4.5 days a week - 5 days one week, 4 the next (in theory, it rarely works out so neatly). I need to learn to slow down and switch]h off, I’m always thinking about the next thing. Our first step towards retirement will be our 3+ week road trip tonScotland and around the NC500 this Spring, we can’t wait. 😃

You'll love the NC, pray for good weather! Achmelvich beach on a sunny day is amazing!

Avoid London John, you're safe in Brum, the busses are all grey!
