Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

If I could afford to retire I would. Chris will retire before me and has said I need to work for two years after she retires to make it fair 🤔. Our mortgage is finished in 17 months, assuming we’re still alive Chris will retire and I’ll wind down towards retirement. I’ve already dropped my paid work to 4.5 days a week - 5 days one week, 4 the next (in theory, it rarely works out so neatly). I need to learn to slow down and switch]h off, I’m always thinking about the next thing. Our first step towards retirement will be our 3+ week road trip tonScotland and around the NC500 this Spring, we can’t wait. 😃
We are doing the same, booked most of the sites we want to stop at this week, cant wait

Hardwick Hall NT.

Last time we were here was July 2020, our first weekend camping in the van, and we parked in the car park and got the table and chairs out in the sunshine on the meadow, and didn't make it any further!

Incredibly impressive if you are into old buildings and history. The tapestries are something else.

Of course, we had to venture down pigeon alley, but fortunately unscathed this time, unlike 2020
:think smile bounce:

Well that Festival of the Force at Newark was rammed. Not expecting to see so many people. Thought i was at Camperjam or Busfest for a moment.

It was however another thing ticked of the to do list of retired life and nice to see people having simple fun.

whats next Oh Yes "Live long and prosper"

Then ventured out to cannon hall with swmbo and did the 5 mile cannon hall trail... muddy as hell... we thought we could hear people doing clay pigeon shooting in the distance and then literally came into view of a couple shooting pheasants on the path about 100 yards in front. Glad the pheasant flew up above and to the left of us or we'd have been peppered I reckon. I was furious. Zero health an safety (tweedy toff jockular jebends!)

Then on the drive home, Jolene had her first major mile stone with us 🥰

Good news is that the Game Bird season is over today (technically Sunday but its unlawful in Eng and Wales)
We are on a shooting estate and can be plagued with shooting parties for months, particularly Dutch groups. We've had them less than 100 yards in fields next to our property shooting birds flying towards our house. Real bell-end got told in no uncertain terms which way to point his firearm or else

I wouldn't call exceeding 30mph a major milestone?!!!

Chatsworth.

Parking is free now the Christmas fair is closed, and before the House reopens in March.

Decent, if boggy walk up through Baslow, Pilsley, then up and around and down to Edensor, with some bonus clementine and cointreau marmalade from the honesty stall.

When are you going @Teldec ? I haven’t booked anything. I hope to be able to plan a day or two ahead and go with the weather and the scenery.
Leaving essex on the 20th April and heading to the lake district for our first stopover then as follows, Never done it before so we have booked all the sites etc
day one park foot holiday park (lake district)
day two Fortrose bay camp site
day three wick river campsite
day four island view glamping pods
day five sango sands
day six clachtoll beach campsite
day seven broomfield holiday park
day eight applecross campsite
day nine glen nevis camping and caravan park
day ten park foot holiday park (lake district)

😂🤣 plenty of bogs. It was a shame we couldn't have a fire there which I knew ahead of time but I thought my solo stove would be ok (apparently not). Camping without a fire going in the evening is worser for it.
Yeah, not really sensible to have an open fire, you might set light to the puddles!

I thought all those new forest sites had no facilities, need to check them out again

Long, slow and wet drive south from Berwick to Grantham on day 1 of our little tour d'East Anglia. Pitched up at Iron Oak Farm Aire overlooking Grantham. Warming up with a nice brew and some lovely Belgian white chocolate cake. Bosses are snuggling down. Excellent TV reception. Too dark and wet for an outside photo so might grab one in the morning......tomorrow we head to Southwold for 3 nights in an airbnb with family.....
