Valeter for campervans

Hi all

A musing I am having since the pandemic has changed working environments for everyone.

If your van is converted for camping, would you entrust the cleaning of the vehicle (just the exterior, or the whole thing) to somebody else?

Has anybody had experience of asking a valeter to clean their camper? Were there objections, were you happy with the work done?

A Detailer will have more skill and knowledge than a Valeter.

Ok, so specific to the vehicle being cleaned as opposed to somebody just making it superficially shiny? (for want of a better description!)

This can be a bit of a mine field, as it's just a job title someone gives themselves.

Always go by recommendations. @Tourershine will be along at some point to shed light on the situation. Wiping caravans over is his thing.

I’d do the dashboard yourself. A valeter did a friends car, got multiple switches wet with a solution that must have contained salts. After driving and passing 12V through the wet electrical contacts I spent a long day pulling switches and contacts out to clean them and get it working again.
No such thing as a cheap valet.
And those hangy tree things stink like public toilets, what’s that all about?

“Hangy tree things”.....what we call “Toilet Duck on a card”!!!

Camper as in your T6? @LisaH
If so, it's not my forte, contrary to the above recommendations, but I can understand their confusion. We work with Caravans and Motorhomes, not really Campers. My business concentrates more on fibreglass and Aluminium, where as a T6 is no different to a car in that sense.

As for 'valeter' or 'detailer' they are two totally different skills, with a valeter costing around £65 to clean your exterior, and a detailer can cost 10x that and more. A valeter will leave your T6 nice and clean, where as a detailer tends to specialise in fixing paint issues or specialist coatings to protect your paint.
If you just want your camper cleaning, you need a valeter and i'd advise a good mobile one with some good social media accounts and potentially a nice tidy website. Not a fly by night advertised on Facebook working out the boot of their car type of business.

If however you are looking for something far more in-depth, you need a Detailer and finding one of those local to you will be easy if they have a good reputation, but they tend to be more workshop based.

Thanks for this informative response.

I was wondering if there was anybody out there who specialises in cleaning campervans ready for trips as opposted to generic automotive valeters/detailers.

Do people trust other folk with the cleaning etc of these sorts of vehicles?

Not really a thing as far as I can tell.

Maybe you've spotted a gap in the market?

this company looks ok showing prices would give you an idea cant see any qualifications or recommend but down your way in Bristol Services | Dynax Detailing Co. | South West, England but a spray bottle with the correct detergents in and a wet vac and some elbow grease you can clean it yourself and you dont need to soak / flood everything. can recommend the National Carpet Cleaning Association ( NCCA ) though for all your carpet cleaning requirements they would clean your van professionally internally. if that helps

We spend weeks at a time traveling and living in a SWB campervan, two adults can clean inside the van throughout in less than 30 minutes without a vacuum cleaner on the side of a road. It’s a very small space.

As you mention it, I could clean the inside of our old caravan (Bailey Unicorn Cadiz) after a trip away in around an hour. It's no different to and used the same products as I would in the house.

Of course now we are at home and can’t travel I have the butler do it after he’s polished the Roller

I love these caravan names, there must be bets on in the factory as to who can get the most outlandish name through to the decal machine.
