Upgrading head unit, can one from another van be used? T6.1

OK. I am tired of the crappy iTunes audio quality from my poverty spec head unit.

So, if I managed to source one from another van (eg written off and breaking) could that be fitted and the component protection removed?

If it can be done can anyone recommend a company that would remove the protection and code it into my van?

It's not that straight forward retrofitting factory nav units and quite expensive as there's more parts required other than the screen and main unit.

Apple music actually has quite a good output compared to Spotify, Deezer etc. not as good as tidal. Your limitations are the amp in the headunit and the headunit it's self and the factory preset built into the unit that you can't change

Yes, my post wasn't clear enough. My head unit crackles like an old scratched vinyl disc. If I do a factory reset its ok for a few weeks then starts again, I wasnt criticising iTunes, that the MMI is pants and I'm fed up with doing factory resets and having to change all the settings etc.

I swapped a composition colour for a composition media (I think ) as I wanted CarPlay. A direct swap with a unit with component protection removed, the only extra thing I needed was a different connector that worked with an I phone for CarPlay and thanks to advice on the forum I knew I only needed a different connector and not the whole wiring loom. All worked perfectly except I needed the front rear fader coding in and I also need it coding in as the van has an error for component protection activated but it does nothing and I’ll get that coded at some point. All works really well.

It is possible to upgrade standard 6.1 headunit to the satnav one but as mentioned above you would be changing from and all in one unit to a separates with brain behind glovebox so you need a bit of wiring to do it
There are 2 or 3 different manufacturers of disco media headunits for the 6.1 and last time i checked only the LG (i think) was crackable ?

@Pauly there's more to it than that trust me I did @Matt-T68 discover pro and it's not straight forward like the t6.

From my point of view as a business not the end user they're a lot of effort for little reward.

The crackling is actually down to apple changing the bandwidth rate on carplay post T6.1 release and Disco er Media and Pro can have issues with Carplay albeit less likely.

@Skyliner33 yes all the bits can be sourced but again it's not the hardware that's the biggest issue it's getting the SOS module to behave a react properly
