ToddiesT6 - Build Log

Another day & as I can’t find well fitting internal thermal black out curtains I’ve made them also!

Short term they will do the job, but if I ignore just-campers, veedubs & transportHQ, does anyone recommend an alternative supplier?

(I don’t want an external screen shade BTW)

Mostly been out and about enjoying the van, learning what works and what doesn’t - a few little upgrades.

Fridge:
Yeti is excellent for a week, bit big for weekends so opted for a 2nd hand unit.

Wi-Fi arial:
Signal isn’t great from the R216 mifi so I hope it improves with this.

Awning Straps:
A few trips to Devon and it gets a little loose & whilst I’m sure it will never undo, this secures it fully.

Heater control:
Couldn’t see if from bed - so moved it.

Another weekend away in the van & all enjoyed the trip to longleat, the over night camp our & animal safari before the summer party. The monkey enclosure wasn’t as much fun for myself as the little rascals loved the bonnet bra a little to much!

Needed to do some ‘hands on work’ after a day in the virtual office, so got on with installing the nighthawk Wi-Fi, then made new cables & wired in the inverter before moving over to removing an air lock from the Nespresso in order to enjoye the most expensive coffee I have ever had!

Yep twin LiFePO4 battery’s, 2000w inverter & two lots of cables (As I purchased the wrong size initially) brings the total to almost £2000 in order to make my coffee!

Lessons are sometime expensive, so learn from mine as unless you really really need an inverter for other things, buy the press pot for your coffee!

Cheer ;)

BTW - Rubber tube, syringe & forced water removed the nespresso air lock & saved a few hundred on a new pod machine!

Regarding the nighthawk, I’m after a custom mounting bracket - I can CAD it up on CATIA and export in any format (I expect IGES) but doesn’t anyone have a 3D printer & interesting in collaborating? You’d be free to offer them for sale afterwards as what I’ve seen online aren’t exactly what I’m thinking

Gotta love these sunny long days as you can get so much more done on your build - hence tonight it’s on with the 240 EHU install.

So I’ve fitted c-line twin sockets fitted behind the drivers seat for the fridge and portable AC unit. Then run 2.5mm- 3183-3core cable behind the panelling to the OSR quarter panel & out to the twin gang consumer unit. A new & dedicated earth point (via my good old rivnuts) enables the tight packaging required, with inlet feed coming in from below. M25 IP68 grommets & a little anti-chaffing grommet sorts the cable out - just need a surface mount inlet to be delivered and we are complete.

So I’ve been trying to find a roof system that’s very low profile (when not in use) yet nobody does one beyond side rails with aero bars :( & even these will add 60mm to a vans height……meaning I would need to lower the van to stay under that magical 2m. Whilst lowering itself is common, it’s a) money I don’t want to spend as b) the potentially firmed up ride (when passing over rough ground) isn’t what I’m after.

Despite being told “you have no choice mate” by just about every firm I called up, the solution (being an engineer) was to just make it myself. And so here is my ultra low profile (10mm without the crossbeams) solution.

Anyone wants the details, just DM me else grab me at the end of July camp out.

Time to install the new fridge (compressor) as I’m going gas less & the prior 3 way is a little power hungry.

The Thetford sinks on order also & so the search for an induction job starts.

Sink is in plus water storage behind it to take advantage of the ambient thermal gains. Plumbing /pump install on hold till Riech tap also in stock, but as my worktop (checker plate carbon) is likewise pending, it gives me time for other things.

But as idle hands is the devils work - I’m already looking to maybe selling it to start another ☝️

Great build love the detail you go into. It is never ending we all tinker around and make changes. Hope it's done now and you are enjoying it.
