To oil service change, or to not oil service change?

Hi - sorry if this has been answered elsewhere. Have tried searching but am not an expert on this, so get a little confused by the comments! (PS Love the site, so helpful to a novice!)
I have a 2020 T6.1 that's just ticked over the 80,000 miles - we've done just over 11,000 miles in the 15 months we've had the van. Bought from a reputable conversion company and we're really pleased with the van. (Big up Spartan Campers).
Had a full service 6 months ago, included an oil change, however the "Oil Service" 800 miles light has just come on - we've probably done less than 5000 miles since the service, although have just completed an 1,800-mile two week trip.
My Q is, should it really need an oil change now given it was six months ago? Is it worth doing it as seems (from reading on here) for engine longevity, an annual/10000-mile oil change is the way to go?
TIA

Personally I don't like the VW or any other manufacturers smart oil servicing baloney and stick to a simple oil and filter change at 10k or yearly. On basis I do about 20-30k a year usually a lot of that in Europe it just needs planning so my friendly indy can do it for me.

They didn't reset it when they serviced it, that's all.

I change my motorcycle oil every 3600 miles religiously, my van didn't do much more than that over the last year but still an oil change at 12 months.

We all make our own decisions, mine is to change the oil and filter every 8K miles.
It's cheap as chips as I DIY it and I want the van to get to 200K, so it's a no brainer for me.

If your service was just six months and 5000 miles ago I’d suggest it doesn’t need doing at the moment, but I’d be asking the garage that serviced it for their thoughts - i.e. did they forget to reset the service interval indicator.
And then yes- as yourself and others have suggested a maximum 10,000 miles/one year is a good interval. This 20k on the same oil is BS to get you to pay for parts when they fail quicker.
