Tailgate release switch & carpet lining

Hi all

I've just started lining my van and eased myself in with doing the tailgate panel last night. This went well and looks good, however, I can't get the tailgate release switch to fit back in, due to the thickness of the carpet. I've searched for the answer but can't find it.

I'm assuming I need to cut the carpet up to the switch rather than fitting it over. I'm worried I won't get a good finish, is there a better way of doing this??

Yeah you need trimming around very careful and keep check it if fit right.
Be carefiul dont cut too much .
Should be ok.
I did it whit my when carpeting.

I got mine to clip back in by cutting a bit off the back of the panel where the clips go to make it thinner.

struggling to get my switch out? dont want to force it and break it. any tips of removing the switch at all please?
