T6 T32 Kombi tyre query

Sorry it’s another tyre question.
I need a couple of tyres for my Kombi and the ones on the van are 215/60r17 109/107T. I believe the 109/107 is the load rating and the T the speed but my tyres also have 104h on them.
Does anyone know what this means?
Can I just get tyres with the 109/107T ratings or do I have to go for the 109/107 104h options?
Hopefully I’ve not confused things, many thanks.

Hi... Firstly if you check the B pillar on the driver side you should find tyre/ pressure sticker like this ( this is from a T32 204ps)

but you need to remember that different models will have different load rating depending on tyre types ...my original where 104 but having changed to 18” wheels my new load rating is 103
Ps if you go on to a tyre web site and search by reg number it should give it’s correct tyres

Thank you. My sticker says exactly the same as that picture, it’s the 104h that’s confusing me.
I’m assuming on the standard wheels as long as I have the load rating on or above those stated on the sticker I should be fine.

Hi @JAT69 That H could refer to the speed rating ( see pic ) but as long as you use a higher load/ speed rating should be fine...

Does anyone know the minimum legal speed rating you can fit to a T6.1 (T32 199PS 4motion)? The standard Tyres are T but can you go down to an 'S' rated tyre and stay 100% legal? The standard tyres are over the legal minimum load rating but are they also over-rated for speed?

This information is taken from Kwik fit..

Why is Tyre Speed Important?
At high speeds, car wheels will turn faster, generating more friction and therefore more heat. If a tyre’s speed rating is too low then it will risk tyre failure and losses of control at fast speeds, so for both your own safety and the safety of other motorists it is vital to have suitable tyres fitted.

As well as safety reasons, having the correct speed rating is important from a legal perspective. Fitting tyres that have a lower speed rating than the manufacturer’s recommendation can invalidate your car insurance. It is important to check your vehicle handbook and ensure that any new tyres match, or even exceed your cars maximum speed. You should never fit a tyre with a lower speed rating than was originally fitted to your vehicle during production.

Thanks, I also just checked the T6.1 brochure and the max speed for the 199PS DSG 4 Motion is 123mph. That's higher than the 'T' rated tyres that it came with (118mph).
Looks like if VW are already pushing just past the speed rating of the factory tyres it probably wouldn't go down well with insurers to fit any lower. That's the BFG plan out of the window!

The 107/109 relates to when tyres are used on a dual axle. 104 fine for single tyre axle.

Some manufacturers have lower speed ratings for winter tyres, not sure if VW do.

Winter tyres run cooler and generally a lot slower when used in the correct climate.
