T6 8" speakers... really?

Apologies in advance to anybody I ever told that the T6 has 8" diameter door speakers.
In a shock peak behind the curtain that is the door card it turns out there is indeed an 8" hole in the metal tray that carries the window channels and gubbins with a plastic reducer fitted to hold, on my T6, a measly 6" speaker.
Is this what normally passes for a supposed 8" speaker on the T6 or was my 2017 Trend line originally specced with electric mirrors, A/C, front assist and ickle 6" door speakers?
I figure I'm going 8" but going to have to cobble up some plywood rings to allow for not using the VW plastic speaker reducer/holder.
Oh and the reason that original speaker was barely working was down to a water based partial detachment of the pole magnet where the glue holding metal to metal had died allowing the magnet to move a fraction and the pole had fouled on the voice coil former closing the gap to jam the cone.

I'm less bothered about the speaker having failed than I am at blindly accepting the premise that this is an 8" door speakers.

Fairly common knowledge. I think VW buy old transistor sets at the car boot sale and cannibalise them for the speakers.

I've thought of upgrading mine, but being a muso with a little studio engingering experience I find a vehicle almost intolerable as a place for music no matter how good the system. Its usually radio on for me at a very low volume and thats it.

Others though are happy to overlook this and get seriously hard over their vibes.

I don't know about hard but I would say it's possible to get decent sound in a vehicle but 6" drivers don't shift as much air as 8" plus the 8" will dig that bit deeper with a lower Fs and higher efficiency.
I wasn't going to try and go all Steve Meade with the camper but now I'm stuck with the passenger door card off and knowing that I've got to wait for some actual 8" drivers and "fit" them before I can finish both doors and that part of my sound deadening exercise or I end up locking myself in the van with no door controls.
That's my RE MX 18 sub, 4" voice coil, roughly 3" xmax and surprisingly light due to the underhung motors neodymium magnet.

These were on the old rings. You can still see some water marks but the wood rings were knackered due to the water moisture in the door.

once the upgrades are complete I expect to see you doing handbrake turns to drum and bass in Sixfields carpark and banging out dance beats up Bridge St!

Ironically just ordered the AP8s from Car Audio Direct who started the Talk Audio forum and organised the "T" car audio meetings at Oxford, I was "40s and deaf" on the forum... now I'm 60s and dead.
Did manage to get 137dBs at 27Hz on a Term Pro meter at T4 with my completely non Max Power Saxo running a single JL 13W7 in a 7 cube slot ported box, not the biggest reading just proper trousers flapping street bass.🤫

Blam !!!

I was at a car show on Sunday and a Nissan Puke was there with the full works giving it the beans. I had to explain SPL competitions to Mrs Sasquatch, who was most incredulous that people would do such a thing.

It does defy logic but at it's most basic level is another way to compete with other humans and build the biggest, loudest, cheapest, most expensive thing... basically there's something wrong with us when normal biological evolution isn't fast enough. :geek:

It's too late now but I reckon at a push you could get a 10" driver in there if it was a shallow mount plate type speaker? 🤫
