So… had a go at deadening the outer skin, assembly carrier and door card today to improve the sound of the OEM speakers.
When I removed the door card the assembly carrier is black plastic and not the metal version I see in posts and YouTube videos. Note I have a T6.1 2023.
This I thought. OOOkay… shouldn’t be a problem, must just be a cost saving drive towards the end of the line.
The issue came when removing the speakers as drilling out the rivets also causes havoc with the plastic they are mounted in… as excessive drill speed melts the plastic and drilling out also enlarges the mounting hole. Aaagghhhh.
And then dodo deadening… the profile of the black plastic is a mare to cover in the bitumen sheet, lots of moulded fins, folds and otherwise….
Anyone else found this later change in material a general pain??
In a few months I hope to install Gladen speakers but fear the next round of drilling will not leave much left in the carrier.
Now thinking of replacing the plastic assembly carrier with the earlier metal version… trying to find the right part to buy (if available) would me my next challenge!!!
Rant done.
