Three Questions - Speakers, Glass Rattle & Suggestions for Door Card Deadening Product

I am thinking about replacing my speakers, as heard that Gladen (for example) are a massive improvement on stock speakers, even though I actually think the ones in there aren’t that bad.

So first question is, can you please confirm that these are the factory fit speakers? I am guessing they are, based on a few online photos.

I will also be fully sound deadening, but I have made a start using Dodo on the metal section that the speaker mounts to on my T6. Only done the full section to the right of what shows in the above photo.

I have tested the results and it’s already a great improvement on the rattles and vibrations. When pushed hard with heavy bass though, there is a rattle from the glass which is still there when the window is in any position other than fully down. Totally goes away when down.

So second question is whether any of you guys have experienced this and how you resolved it?

I will do more Dodo deadening when I replace the speaker, but if there’s anything I can aim at to fix the glass rattle, that would be awesome!

Third question is what product do you find the best for the back of the plastic door cards?

Thanks in advance, as couldn’t find from a search.

Yes they are definitely standard door speakers as they are riveted in.
You need to bore the rivets out to fit new speakers.
I can recommend the gladens, they are as good as everyone says.
Most folk just use the same deadening for the plastic cards as they used on the metal door.
Your dodomat will be fine.
The deadening makes a huge difference.
Sorry can’t help on the window rattle.

I have just ordered the Gladen’s, WaterGuard’s and some Dodo Acoustic Liner.

Will stick to the Dodo Deadn on the inner panel and Acoustic Liner on the door card initially, with a view to adding Deadn to the outer door skin if need be later.

Hopefully that will resolve my glass rattle too. 🤞🏽

I've only done the inner panel and the door card.

Makes a big difference.

Will do speakers eventually when they get back to the top of my list... my never ending list

Where did you order from?

Before you put your new speakers in, loosen the top 3 regulator panel bolts and remove the rest. This allows you good access to the inner door skin through the speaker hole. I put dodo mat in there, not that much and it made a noticeable difference. Not just to the speaker sound, but when generally driving the van

Gladen’s have arrived. These things look massive!

Those Hex finish cones are far too nice to hide and would match my Hex Ply panels lovely if on display. 😎

Cheers for all the help guys.

I took your advice @mvw and did manage to put a reasonable amount of Dodo Deadn in there. Also did the inner metal section, but haven’t had time to fit the Dodo acoustic stuff on door card yet.

I was too busy fitting g my Gladen’s…oh my god!

Small update. Still have a bit of a door glass rattle on driver side only, but only with certain bass levels. I haven’t fitted the acoustic stuff to the door card yet, so there is a chance that could sort it, although seems unlikely as it’s the outer side rather than inner which it emanates from.

Whilst I will do the acoustic stuff, it does go to show that the Deadn is very effective at soaking up the rattles in fairness.

Another gain is the more satisfying solid feeling when closing the doors. I have the Golf style rubbers which improved that, but this has stepped it up a notch. It’s also less effort closing the doors over those new rubbers too. This is probably due to the extra weight in the door itself now.

These are all incremental changes but very satisfying when the overall result mounts up to a great result.
