T6.1 SOS fault.

General system update,,, please explain?
There's not much to explain. The infotainment system notified me that there was an important update in two steps: first, download, and then install. Once it's downloaded, it asks me not to use the vehicle for 10 minutes. I went to eat, and when I returned, everything was working fine, with the system update notification.

The email I received last month regarding the new software update instilation says to "activate online mode in the infotainment system",,,, how do you, or did you do this?

In the car's entertainment system settings, under data or connectivity (I'm not sure which), there's an option to activate data usage.

The problem I've got is connecting to the wi-fi,,, there doest seem to be an option to connect to wi-fi on my infotainment system (not one that's obvious to me, anyway).
How do you install upgrades "over-the-air" without a wi-fi option?
Very frustrating and annoying.

All T6.1 phones in Spain come with integrated data via an eSIM. They also have Wi-Fi, but it's used for other things.

It comes down over the 3G/4G connection. No WiFi required.

I've had the message that a system update is needed displayed for abiut 6 weeks. Yet the update does not download. When I manually request the download I get the message. Error.no data available. Please I sent source with software update data or chrck source.

What do I do next ?

No idea what you do next ...

Vcds - telematics module. Basic setting - reset battery memory. - clear faults.
Thanks for the info. I've managed to get it sorted now, it does seem that the battery history need reseting, before splashing out on a new battery...?

Im glad it’s not just me, I've had this error since collecting the van, the dealer has ordered the part to fix but has said it will take months to arrive. I also can’t link my VW Phone app because the privacy settings on the head unit is strict, and it won’t let me change it. I was wondering if the SOS unit battery is dead it maybe effecting the network services and would resolve once repaired….. has anyone had a similar issue?

I’ve got a list of teething problems to present to the dealer anyway when they sort this, obviously the SOS module issue, the head unit privacy issue and one of the USB-C’s doesn’t work, I also think one of the heated wing mirrors isn’t working.

Here is a cautionary tale!! During a short journey today in my 2021 T6.1 the dreaded " SOS Emergency call restricted Workshop!" came up on the dash. On returning plugged in my OBD unit and checked on Carista and sure enough there were faults on some of the 15ECUs scanned including 2 on the Telematics unit. Reset all I could but the Telematics ones after reset returned. So locked up and returned to the house to investigate further on Internet. (Found this topic on Forum and have learnt a lot thanks), Just reached the house when there was a frantic knocking on the front door. (T6.1 is parked at back of house). It was a Policeman!!! He said they had received an emergency crash call from my vehicle!! After explaining to him that there was a fault on the vehicle he told me that they receive emergency calls from vehicles with SOS systems which gives the vehicle info, exactly where it is and the time, in crash situations. He was concerned. But I had not crashed. So in the system there must be a GPS sensor as well as an esim. like a tracker. So beware your system can contact the police on its own! I presume this is not a paid for service. Can you turn it off? Is it an MOT requirement if fitted? Not sure about the Software upgrade. Seems a stupid system if it only works on 2G and 3G and they are being Phased out.

Since doing the update which it said was successful, every time I turn the ignition off it is going back to restricted privacy mode and says it's can't access the esim. Any ideas?
