They definitely did some kind of work the first time as i said engine management light was on when I picked it up!
@JoshB_ can you tell me what made you ask if the noise comes and goes when the AC's on or off? I ask as I had just that in the summer and VW replaced the AC pump but the rattle remained. I've subsequently had a new DMF & clutch and the rattle is still there. Would that point towards crankshaft pully? I've had a very slight vibration through the peddles and steering wheel between 2200 and 3000 revs, which I'm convinced points at the crankshaft pully? In all honesty, I think you could be spending hours and serious money on trying to get to the bottom of it. Could be starter motor, might not be disengaging properly. Could be crankshaft position sensor. Could be injector related. Could be crank pulley. Most of those would lead to a timing slip though so would expect at best an error code, at worst some engine damage.
Dipping the clutch doesn’t guarantee fly wheel. See if the noise comes and goes when you turn air-con on and off as well…
You’d like to think so… I use my local garage with lads that I know so I get under the ramps with them etc…Should they not have been able to tell when they changed the fly wheel the first time that it wasnt broken? The mechanic mentioned it didnt seem that bad while he was trying to diagnose the adblue failure they created pulling wire out but never spoke to him again justbtge guy in charge. Then surely changing the second flywheel wheel again should they have been able to tell or at least check the crank pulley etc? So far bloody "hey google" has been more help than the garage google thinks its the input shaft baring where symptoms only when cold and has to be something spinning that makes noise as stops with clutch down. I've only had van a year but its 2021 would gearbox still be warrenty?
I can only hear the audio on the uploaded video now but before I could see that the noise is clearly at the drive end of the engine and not at the free end where the crankshaft pulley and aux belt tensioner are located.
It also appears to be directly linked to the clutch operation.
No crank pulley won be affected by the clutch, sounds like the aux’ belt and tensioner were overdue, again not affected by the clutch. Hopefully they checked the alternator clutch pulley freewheeling when renewing the belt, again this is not linked to the noise you’ve recorded.Would this crank shaft pulley be effected by clutch? Also they replaced aix belt and tensioner as it squeaked like a bird cheeping first thing in the morning which has gone

OE come from Sachs and LuK. Either should make an excellent aftermarket alternative to OE
Yeah drives fine and sounds. Some mornings its fine and if I put it in gear and briefly engage engine then back into neutral thats enough to start noise. Then drive down the road and stops. I do think it grinds going into reverse and 1st quote often but probabky my error.Yeah… that’s nothing off the aux belt…
That sounds fubar’d. It’s still drives ok though? Changes gear fine?
Any info on the history of the van? Ex lease/rental or owt? Or private owner?
Just thinking what kind of abuse it might have had before you got it…
It’s limited what to say across an internet forum with a few vids etc… if it were my van I’d be stripping the clutch assembly, but in my own time. Appreciate not everyone can do that.
How long have you had it? Prices have held well with poor sales of the T7… you might be lucky…
When they did the first fly wheel they did a new clutch aswell should they not have inspected it then?Any info on the history of the van? Ex lease/rental or owt? Or private owner?

At 1:15 it sounds just like my van. I cant find any videos anywhere of anything sounding like mine except a failing dmf. Could the garage fit the wrong one or something like that?
Could it be a failed bearing in the gearbox? especially if it stops when the clutch is depressed (disengaging the gearbox) It could also explain why the rattle disappears after a few minutes once oil is circulating in the gearbox. No oil leaks from the gearbox?
Sounds awful I sent them that video before any work done. Wouldn't be every day it made that sound only now and then and would stop by the time I drove even 10 feet. Its the exact same noise still maybe abit quieter now.
