Steps to check engine running to VW spec

Is anyone know of online guides that step you through the process to make sure that the engine (CXEB) is running as well as it should, according to manufacturer specifications.
I tried searching for "tune" but that just brings up discussions on how to increase power by remapping etc.
On the olden days, with my Rover 2000, it was check points, spark plugs gap, valve clearance, carby mixture, etc.
Is there anything similar for VW diesels?

Not as such.
You can to vcds scan tool software to check all the running parameters.

IE boost pressure, rail pressure, injector deviation, system voltage etc.

You can use mechanical testing like cylinder compression test

Cxeb can be known for some issues....

Blocked egr / DPF which could cause turbo problems.

Or premature block wear.

The most important thing with a cxeb is regular oil changes and monitoring oil use religiously.

Thanks @Dellmassive .
Is there anywhere I can get what the expected parameters should be? I would love to know that everything is within range.
I have VCDS. I have also had to replace the turbo, possibly due to a blocked EGR.
The van is at 136,000km with no oil use if its running the correct oil 🙏. Some independents here in Sydney don't use the correct oil and that gave me usage issues. I do my own servicing now.
Cheers
