My Daughter's 2014 Seat Mii has developed an Engine rattle when idling and the clutch is engaged. When you depress the clutch to engage first gear it immediately goes away! Car drives fine otherwise.

Any Ideas?

Many Thanks

Its a common noise when in neutral on these boxes. Its the layshaft rattling. TADTS. Our Up! makes the noise when in neutral and clutch engaged.

Unless its getting difficult to engage gears or its whining when in gear I wouldn’t worry.

The Up Owners Forum is a good source of Mii, Citigo and Up information (effectively the same car which you’re probably aware of)

No where near as good as the T6 Forum

Sounds like a Diesel, until you put your foot on the clutch! Gears engage fine though.

Ours sounds more like a bag of spanners being shaken!

I’m sure I googled it at the time we bought ours, expecting an imminent gearbox rebuild, and found it to be very common / normal. I think there was a revision in 2016 that improved the layshaft bearings.

We have a couple of young peoples cars in the household - the Up and a Citroën C2 and the Up feels very refined for a small / budget car by comparison.

Our 2015 Up has done it for about 6-7 years with no issues. I just turn the radio up or keep my foot on the clutch!!

More concerning is the rust developing around the fuel filler and water getting trapped in the sills (can be heard sloshing around!)

Re fuel filler rust - this is due to the lack of arch liners which seem to be standard from 2016 onwards and also lack of hosing under the arches to wash out the salt laiden crud that accumulates under there!

I caught ours early so only a few micro bubbles in the paint and hopefully abated! Arch liners retro fitted. No water in the sills fortunately!

Where did you get the Arch Liners from?

I got them from the dealers - most of the clips came from ebay as cheaper. I have an installation guide / parts list from someone on the Up forum somewhere. I’ll see if I can find it!
