Rumble..

Hi everyone body,so before I rush off to a garage for advice,thought I would ask people in the know.
I have t6 150 bhp 6 speed manual,just today we noticed when you pull up to a junction or whatever, van is in gear and clutch pedal is depressed,there is a strange rumble,when we set off no rumble noise,van drives and changes gear fine.
Any ideas where I should be looking into.

Could be wrong but maybe clutch release bearing is shot? Edit... or is it only when the van is moving?

Does it do it on start up? Could be the dual mass flywheel. When that wears it starts to rumble - it'll drive ok for a while but it's a sign it's due to be replaced.

It does rumble a little on start up,but rumbles well when in gear and clutch depressed,what's the option on still driving it,can't get in garage until August.

Definitely sounds like the DMF - fairly common (especially in higher mileage vans). You'll be fine driving it for a good while if it's only recently started.
The DMF dampens the uptake of the clutch - if it wasn't fitted the torque of the diesel engine would make for a jerky engagement and puts excess stress through the gearbox so just drive it steady.
I managed fine with my old T5.1 for months whilst I saved up for a new clutch & DMF - had the cambelt & water pump done all at the same time.

We are looking at going to oxford in a few weeks,we live in the lakes, do you think it would be ok for that journey,or not risk it

Personally I reckon it'll be absolutely fine - once the clutch is engaged, the DMF isn't really involved so a motorway journey wouldn't be a problem. If you've got chance it'd be worth having your local garage listen to it to get their diagnosis but I've known many owners drive for quite some time with a noisy DMF without any issues.

if it rumbles with the clutch depressed it probably isn't DMF? mine was replaced a while back, knocking/rumble, but stopped when clutch was pressed

I had similar on a polo a few years ago and that was clutch release bearing, which is what I suggested further up the thread. I'm not familiar enough to know if this is a likely culprit on a T6 though.

Think I'd be trying to find a local garage to at least take a listen to see if they have a verdict, otherwise keep driving it and see if it gets worse
