well whilst you are watching the football you might like to visit the revamped VW download site Infotainment
and instal discovercare then update your maps.
Takes about 3 hours on a fast fibre broadband including the backup.

Yes, no problems.
Well, actually I didn't use the DiscoverCare download manager. Instead just downloaded the package "European Countries – Bundle 1", unzipped and copied the files directly to the SD-card - as instructed in Download Manual (PDF).

Sam issue here. Tried twice over WiFi at home, now attempting via cabled connection. @Nigel W - How do you clear the card?

If the Wi-fi connection drops then the whole process does sometimes look as if it has failed - it usually hasn’t, it is just resetting and will (after an age) continue. (You may need to press an onscreen prompt or two)
If after trying everything you are sure the card is corrupt and you want to install the files manually by downloading and unzipping then you clear the card by formatting it.
If you do go down this route then ensure you format the card to MS DOS FAT , here are instructions on how to do this on a Mac.

Many thanks, It is at 78% currently so will see if it completes. If not then will format and start again

Hi Hactus - take care, I am not sure but I think if you format the card then you can not update to the new maps via discovercare you might have to do manually.
I think discovercare might need to see a map already on the card so it can update, a blank card might confuse it. I am not sure as I have never tried it.
Installing manually is pretty easy as long as you know how to ‘unzip’ files so don’t fret.

It failed again using DiscoverCare.

I have formatted the card and then selected 'Update for Systems without Volkswagen SD Card' within DiscoverCare. After selecting the vehicle and year it gave me the same options as previously. I skipped the Backup, it downloaded again and then successfully installed on the SD Card. DiscoverCare has stated it was successful so will see when I pop the card back in later today.

I formatted on a Windows box, so right-click and select Format... select FAT32 (Default).

That’s brilliant news and good to know that you can update a blank card using discovercare - so much easier than unzipping.

I have just tried this and unfortunately my SD card is now not recognised at all. Any suggestions or should I presume it is corrupt?

Hi Dave, when you say it’s not recognised do you mean that your computer doesn’t see it when you plug it in?
Are you using a PC or a Mac?

I'm using a Mac and have gone into the disk utility and the only option there is the Mac itself, there's no SD card anymore

You have unlocked the SD card - the little slide switch on the SD card ?
The card was visible until I tried to erase the contents. I have just double checked, in case that was causing me the original problems, and the error message said "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"
