Review: DAV-TEC

Got it booked in with Chris on 8th Dec, before I joined this forum (only recently) I had been considering a Pendle map, but was concerned about a lot of negative comments here and there, across several forums. Then found this forum, and started reading all the amazing reviews for Dav-Tec. I think I’ve read them all now, there is an awful lot, and every one is so positive, it’s very reassuring. Especially after a chat with Chris the other day. ( who promptly rang me back after a leaving him an answerphone message.)
I’m liking the idea of the live data reading, seems much more ‘real world’ than the rolling road option, (which others charge extra for)
It’s going to seem a long wait for December!

Seems there’s the type you add to the fuel, and an aerosol can which is sprayed into the air intake, just wondering which is best?

So the fuel tank one works fine but we have found the Revive turbo and DPF cleaner that goes in the intake really good stuff. Not cheap but works great. We'll as far as wonder stuff in a bottle goes anyway

Yes, big difference in price, but guess the results are instant with the Revive stuff too.

Hi all,

I was looking for a specialist whom could fit a series of upgrades and I was recommended Chris at @Dav-Tec by this forum.

I contacted Chris via phone from his website and the back and forth began discussing various options. We agreed a price on the following works...
- Alpine Halo 9" headunit
- Integrated reversing camera
- New steering wheel to enable retro fit of cruise control
- Thinkware U1000 front and rear dashcams

We agreed a date and I dropped the van off. Chris was kind enough to drop me back at the train station so I could get home quickly.

When I returned all the work had been completed and looked super factory finished. He took the time to give me a run down of all the functions and get me paired up, explaining how and where he'd calibrated speakers etc as we go.

After leaving the workshop I realised I had an electric window fault. We discussed the issue and I made an attempt to understand and solve the problem, however Chris was more than happy to take the van back in to review the issue, despite his work having gone no where near the door or door card. None the less Chris meticulously worked through the problem and found a loose connection. I'm really pleased with the result and the final installation meets all my expectations.

Chris is clearly very capable and takes his time to find the best solution for his clients; taking the quality of his work very seriously as he goes.

I'm more than happy to recommended Chris to anyone whom needs a professional and super competent electrical engineer for their VW. I'm sure he probably does other things, but he smashed my ICE install out of the park. Cheers Chris.

All the best
Stuart

Ah cheers buddy, glad you're happy! Nice to hear our passion for quality, doing the job right and keeping the customer happy shines through.

So have been up to see Chris today. Originally for a set of LED headlights but bit the bullet and had the engine and DSG mapped. Great improvement and this from a man who was running on fumes. Thanks for all the tweeks too Chris. The DSG is soooooooo much smoother and the bloody annoying downshift when coasting has gone. Was a lovely relaxed drive home. Pulled up the hills on the M1 without dropping into a lower gear which it was doing. 50mph behind some lorries and it accelerated back up to 70 without dropping out of 7th. The lights were great on highbeam but still need to come up a little. Especially noticeable with the newer cars with auto dip weren't actually registering me until they were really close. But a definite improvement. 60 down the lanes home without any worries. Will be back for more work matey. You deserve to do well as your attention to detail and attitude towards customers is brilliant.

That’s a great post/review @Matt-T68

As you say he puts in some long hours to ensure everything is absolutely spot on. Conscientious to the bone that lad.
It’s been over two years now since I started this thread and he just keeps on producing…. well done @Dav-Tec (Chris)!

Certainly more prominent the revive stuff you leave to settle are one part old the process son it has chance to stick to carbon deposits by no means is it as good as physical removal but certainly a better chance than this tank filled stuff but there are some good ones of those too

Thank you buddy! Yes certainly was a long day. I was 32 hours straight by the time I got to bed last night :slow rofl: Feel free to bring the van back if the alignment is still off we'll stick it back on the alignment machine and have another go with a fresh head and set of eyes lol. There'll be no charge matey.

Our file writer is staggering at what he can do and it's why we use him. The files he does and the data we've collated over the last few years means we can match and more than often beat the bigger branded mapping companies out there and the results speak for themselves as you've seen. I'd love to meet the bell end that wrote the factory gearbox map and ask him what concoction of narcotics he was doing at the time he wrote that file. However that said the DSG box is an excellent bit of kit and superb once we've tweaked it.

Glad you had a pleasant drive home.buddu and was a pleasure to have you come visit us.

Cheers Matt, appreciate your support buddy. Hoping by February I'll be full time Dav-Tec if all goes to plans this time lol. It's great to hear positive feedback from everyone. Makes the long hours worth it.

Chris. Thanks for all the work dude. I'll have a go at raising them a little and see if that helps. If not I'll arrange a day to pop up. It'll probably be late afternoon due to work if that's ok.

Chris also remapped my 102 yesterday. I wasn’t sure what to expect to be honest, had a few vehicles remapped over the years, plus a few of the old ‘tuning boxes’ too. Certainly made an improvement, noticeable on the motorway particularly. Sounds like it’s a difficult balance with the 102’s, the delicate gearbox means the torque has to be fed in more gradually than the other versions, that’s where the skill comes in. I went out in it again this morning to try it, I think the more you drive it the noticeable the extra oomph becomes. Money well spent. Thanks Chris.

I’m pretty sure you’ll notice an improvement on your MPG too @Droneshadow …. I definitely have since Chris remapped my 102!

The 102 and the 204 are my most favourite to do as they get the biggest and most noticeable gains

Have you done a 204 with a manual gearbox?
Just trying to work out how the standard clutch holds up!?
