Reimo Variotech 3000 bed rattling

The brakes are adjusted by slacking off the lock nuts & winding the screws out using an Allen key, then tightening the lock nuts. What can happen, is that the mushroom shaped cam can come unscrewed from the bottom of the operating rod. If this happens, roll the bed to the slot in the rails, lift the bed so the runner is clear of the rail & replace the cam onto the bottom of the operating rod. This happened to me & I put a dab of loctite on the retaining screw.

thank you for this, mine only locks when both of the locks are engaged. Do you know if this is correct or should it only move if both are lifted. When you say about slacking off the nuts before loosening the Allen key part, which nuts are you referring to? I want to make sure mine are correct and tight. Thank you in advance.
 
Thanks guys I came across this while searching for something else; my 3000 rattles intermittently, so ill try these tips. The other thing I was looking into is if my van and reimo 3000 can be used to secure a wheelchair. is there any after-market attachments that can provide an anchor point? a family member has taken in ill and is wheelchair-bound bound so it would be great to be able to offer safe transport in the camper when the bed is removed or positioned forward.
 
Sorry to jump in on this thread, but could anyone explain how to adjust the breaking system for me. I've had a look around mine and its all cupboarded in, but i can see a little access hole on one side ( thankfully the side which I need to adjust ).

I've tested each break by putting it on the rail not locked in, then seen if i can push the bed with one of them locked, the drivers side locks and the bed doesnt move, but if I do the same for the passenger side i can move the bed and the lock goes right in much further than the otherside so looks like I need to tighten it up. But im not sure how to adjust it.

I'm assuming its this nut and alan key looking thread in the access hole i see. Is it a matter of holding an alan key in the hole and turning the nut , what direction ? Is there any risk of undoing it too much and losing the bottom bit in the rail ( as that would mean removing the bed id assume )

I would look how the other side is but i can't see it as its inside a cupboard too, where as the passenger side i can access from the sliding door

You loosen the lock nut and wind the socket head (Allen key) screw up or down o tighten/loosen the brake. Wind it out/up to tighten up the brake, then lock off with the nut.
 
We are very disappointed with the rattling and squeaking of our Reimo Variotech 3000 full width bed when driving our T6 twin slider Kombi van. Has anyone got any ideas how to stop this?
Reimo Variotech 3000 Rattles
I have the above system in the van and have read the various messages and advice so decided to see what I could do to improve things. Some of the items mentioned are covered elsewhere and thank you to those folks who posted the advice as I found it useful. It will no doubt seem like I am stating the obvious in some instances.

The items I looked at are as follows;-

Position of the seat
The rails have round and oval holes in them (Pic 2) and you must make sure the drop down pegs operated by the bar (as opposed to the individual brake knobs) drop down into the round holes. You can test this by trying to move the base back and forth, if there is only a millimetre or so movement then it’s ok. Anything nearer 10mm and you’re probably in one of the oval holes and the seat will move, especially after a bit of driving and when the seat brakes have eased a little.

I also found that when the sliding seat was set at a distance away from the front seats, similar to that of a car, then the noise was much less. (Pic 1)

Removing the base seat section.

No, this didn’t make any difference but removing it when you want to work on the seat frame etc. is very easy to do. Move the base seat as though you were about to flip it over, the pivot point is then exposed. This is a simple spring-loaded pivot that can be pushed in which then releases the seat base. (Pic 3)

Runner guides
I don’t think these have been mentioned before. They are at the rear of the frame, a “T” shape, and sit in the tracks and appear to have bolts either side of them. They are loose in their mounting, probably deliberately, but rattle like mad. (Pic 4 )

I found this out some time ago and cut up an old margarine tub to make some thin shims. If you get the size right these slip in but the runner guide still has some movement. Note - I left a tab sticking out so that I could remove them to replace etc. I have had these in for a few months so know they work but replaced them so I could put a few pictures with this posting.

The shim needs to go on the sides as well as the top, but due to the bolts, the side flaps will not go in further that the first bolt so trim your sides flaps accordingly. (Pics 5, 6, 7)

Grommets
I know this has been covered before, the grommets on my seat had pushed out of position and one was damaged. I think this is caused by pushing the brake lever with too much downward force as opposed to inward force to operate the brake.

I also found the grommets weren’t a good fit so bought new. You can fit these by removing the brake lever from the brake cam arm that is a bolt with nylon shims.

When I reassemble the brake arm, with the new grommets in place, I added a little lithium grease to the arm. (Pics 8,9,10)

Adjusting the brake
Covered by others, hence I now know how to do this. Release the lock bolt and with an Alum key alter the height of the brake shoe slightly to get a tighter fit. It is no surprise that there will wear and need tweaking now and then. (Pic 11)

I’ve added a couple of pictures to show you the bits that you don’t normally see as they are in the track. Pics (12,13)

Hi there, I'm a new member and considering a Reimo Variotech 3000, the model with 2.5 seats and 3 belts. We need 3 belts and also want the space for slimline units down the side.
Owners of these beds, would you recommend one?
What alternatives are there? (we tried a Beach and found the bed really uncomfortable)

Notwithstanding the (manageable rattles & squeaks) we are very happy with ours and will most likely have one in our next van build. We have the 1200 wide one, which gives 3 travelling seats with belts, and 2 isofix points. We have full depth furniture down the drivers side. Because you sleep on the flat back of the seat, it’s very comfortable to sleep on. The sleeping surface has 50mm of memory foam built in. My only whinge with it is that it’s quite upright and not the most comfortable for lounging on, but a couple of cushions help with that. Ours has the drawer underneath which gives a huge amount of storage.

Hey, that's really helpful, we're really torn with whether to take the leap of faith without ever having tried one! Have you managed to compare it to other van beds?

We have one, and thanks to @Niro I’ve got some more targets in the squeak hunt.

Good points:
Maximum space in the van. The three panel design gives you the most ‘boot’ space in the van.
The sliding system is really easy to operate from the front- no crawling around to release or secure it.
Completely free floor space underneath.
Good flat bed surface - more comfortable than RocknRoll style
Much easier to open out and putaway
Three seatbelts even on regular width furniture
Glue in, so quick installation on a 4Motion without needing to mess with the transmission
I find it as comfortable in the sitting position as a RnR bed

Downsides
£££
The squeaks (still working on it)
Wooden floor needed lots of cutting to fit
Has to be a professional fitting

If I was doing it again, I would definitely look at the new Mobiframe, which has many of the benefits, is cheaper, and has a drop in floor system which you can diy fit.

We have a variotech and find it very comfortable. It’s dead flat because you’re lying on the back and not the sculpted front of the seat. We do use a thin topper on top which just rolls back with the bedding when not in use - maybe an inch of memory foam? It will depend a bit on how hard a mattress you’re used to, I think anyone using a very soft mattress at home will find any van bed hard.

We find a topper no big deal at all, you’re already rolling the bedding back so the topper just gets rolled up with it.
 
So where do you store it when your driving?

Just unhook the sheet from the bottom of the bed, fold the whole thing, topper/sheet/duvet and all into three such that it sits entirely on the top third of the bed and pop the seat up. The entirety of the bedding is now just sitting folded on the parcel shelf and you can stick bags and whatever on top if you like. This works for a variotech - no idea about other beds that might fold in different ways.
