I’m currently looking at replacing my T5 which we’ve got a full conversion in, but we’re having a baby and can’t put a car seat in. We use the pop top for storage, sleep on the RNR, use the fridge when camping but not the cooker or the sink, and the storage in it is really hard to get things in and out of so we don’t put day to day stuff like clothes in, and we cook outside on a camp stove. But I do use it as my daily driver and I also use it when I go on scuba diving trips, so having the kind of set up with a boot in is great.
So when looking at replacing it I’ve been considering a dayvan and had been thinking about a kombi with a pop top and and Ovano type bed behind the seats. But we’ve realised that this doesn’t offer much in the way of a versatile living space when camping, but we also want the rear seats close enough to tend to a child in the back whilst driving.
So instead we’re looking at a T6/6.1 Shuttle with a sliding variotech 3000 and a pop top (one of the converters suggested this).
We’re obviously also looking at other converters for day vans, but the sliding bed always seem to be a massive extra expense. We’re due to go and see a converter who does a RIB Altair easy glide which seems a little bit more affordable.
But I was wondering if there’s any weight in looking at getting a caravelle LWB (for the sliding seats) and then having an ovano style set up in the back where we could slide the factory seats forward whilst driving, and back whilst camping and the bed is away for living space. Has anyone seen or done a set up like this and know what the space is like?
