I asked this a while ago, but never got an answer. Is there a camper conversion company that incorporates rear air con? I'm curious as the California has this and it is a life saver for the rear passengers.
Thanks for the reply. I thought as much. I'm sure if a company made a retrofit system for campers they would do a roaring trade. The thing is the Shuttle/Caravelles with the 3 zone climate control will all have the ducting in the centre of the roof where the middle row of seats are
Only the California, to my knowledge, has the ducting down the sides of the roof to clear the pop top.
So it may only be possible to do if California spare/second hand parts are used, thus likely only economically viable for a private self convert like this:
Rear aircon and poptop?
So the van build planning took a break for a while but back on it, currently pondering the idea of if I find a decent kombi van with rear ac vents how difficult is it to reroute ducting and wiring once pop top is fitted, similar to that of a cali, I'm stuck on wanting a lwb or I think I probably...www.t6forum.com
I'm looking at a VW shuttle with 9 seats, it has everything but full air con throughout. Is it possible to installed the full air con through the shuttle?
I know it's probably a big job if possible, I'm just wondering HOW big of a job it is?
Cheers
Cool thanks. Do you know where the heater cooler is run off of? Is it an electric heater/compressor or is it a second unit that runs in the main engine bay and that is dedicated to the rear? Thanks! The "official" way of doing this, at least in my Caravelle, is the additional heater/cooler in the rear quarter. I think the California's are similar but with (obviously) different roof vents.
I would have thought circulating the air is likely the most effective option. If you wanted to "bring" the aircon from the front you are going to need to divert something that feeds one of the front vents. That might work OK on manual aircon (so long as front person who now doesn't have aircon isn't upset with you) but it's going to confuse the heck out of the automated aircon.
