Power-closing door problem

Help needed please, last night my n/s sliding door was working fine one minute then later when I came to open it it wouldn’t open electrically, or close. Also when I come to close it it won’t close properly at the back of the door. The button on the dash was flashing this morning when I started up because the door isn’t closed. Any ideas please. Hi, my passenger rear power sliding door has an intermittent fault. When opening from any position (dash button, key or handle) it sometimes will pop the latch and the door rear opens but it won't slide.
The dash button does not flash so I dont think there is a sensor issue (could be wrong!). I have replaced the lower roller as this was worn and cleaned/lubricated the tracks etc. I have also had a quick look at what I think is the controller in the rear quarter for signs of moisture but it looks dry. I havent removed the controller for a thorough inspection and maybe thats next but it looks tight to get out.

Any advise would be welcome, thanks.

Hi, I have recently had problems with my powered door, mine wouldn’t do anything in the end, I had to close it manually but it would latch in at the back of the door. Ended up taking it to a specialist VW garage, the diagnosed a faulty control unit, final cost £801 with diagnostics, parts, labour and coding.

Does this happen with the engine running? Do you have a factory fitted second battery (not leisure battery)?

It mostly seemed to be happening with the engine off and I suspected the engine battery health wasn't optimum. How ever after spending some time paying attention to what happens it does also seem to occur on occasion when the engine is running.
I removed the door card and linked out the pinch protection seal (measure approx 1.2kohms when not activated) the fault still occurs.
Everytime I have a failure to open i have the same error for network comms fault to door. I now suspect the top roller bracket with transponder or the pick up for this on the top rail. Trying to think of ways to prove my theory before spending money on parts I might not require!

I asked about the second battery as a friend had the same problem and it turned out to be the second battery under the passenger seat wasn’t holding its charge. He replaced it and the fault was gone. Hopefully you’ll get sorted without too much expense

Ah I guess that would be a similar situation as the starter battery being old where the voltage is below optimal. Thanks for the suggestions, ill get it in the end!

I have been having a nightmare with one of my doors doing this.

Is yours doing anything else?

Mine has at least for failure modes:
- pops the power latching but door doesn’t slide open using the motor. I then have to walk round open then close door manually.
- door is totally dead and only openable manually
- door opens fine but wont close electrically
- door looks fine but doesn’t notify bcm so interior lights don’t come on and alarm goes off when you go inside.

There is another thread going into it in some detail.

I am currently identifying sensor values using VCDS and cross checking them manually to try and identify if the issue is controller, wiring or sensors.

Just thought I would update this incase its ever useful for someone else. It was suggested early on that I should check my battery was fully charged as the smart charge system restricts the level of charge as the battery ages. I dismissed this however as my issues still occurred with the engine running. This was in fact good advise as I changed my battery due to it not starting if the car was stood for a week or two and I have had no more door issues. Saved me wasting hundreds on sensors etc for no reason. Also have the Start/Stop working again too (don't know if thats a blessing or a curse!).
