Evening folks.
I have the roaster but need advice about what motor to source to turn a 70kg pig.
Needs to be 240v and geared to approximately 4 to 10 rpm.
Needs to drive a 24mm bar so a strong shaft needed.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

The range are doing one

Cheers JOG...
I saw this but were hoping for something cheap...a Heath Robinson type of thing. Been thinking of roller shutter motors, mixer motors etc. I reckon I'll end up with the one you sent over!!

Washing machine motor with a resistor?!!

(On the “wool wash” setting, of course…..for the lamb!)

I’ll leave that for someone who knows what they’re talking about!

You would struggle with a washing machine motor as they need electronic speed control and even then you wouldn’t get it to run that slow I’m afraid. You would need something geared I would think- roller shutter motor could be an idea but would probably end up costing more than just buying one!

I know you said you wanted 240V but how about doing something with an old winch ?? I know it’s probably 12V but it would be slow and powerful..

I have looked at a scaffold hoist but can't work out if they would carry on turning continually or if they need / have a built in stop setting??
12v is a bit unknown as the roaster would be turning 8hrs ish and needs a fairly substantial motor (I'm guessing) so the hassle of a battery or 2 makes it unfeasible.

...and the motor would need to be continuously rated, winch motors etc. normally have short duty cycle like 30mins on 40mins off.
