Petrol Engine T6 Discontinued

revord

Has anyone heard that the petrol version of the T6 has been discontinued and the are not taking any new orders? I'm looking into getting my first Transporter Kombi and the petrol engine was a big plus for me as I will be using it as a car replacement and I do a lot of short journeys. Should I wait to see if the petrol version is re-introduced?

So many people have said this now, that I am beginning to believe them. But I've not seen anything official, or anything from someone who works for VW and the TSI is still selectable on the configurator.
Assuming it is true, is this just a UK (RHD) thing or is it EU (or even World) wide?
What are the reasons?

I phone my local dealer earlier as I've been trying to arrange a test drive in a TSI and was that today is the last day to place an order, last day of October so it could be the cut off date. They seemed to think that it was a lack of demand which might make since. How many people on here have own one?

There are a few (including myself), but I've no idea what the % might be. It would be difficult to get a true reflection by a poll, because I don't think that the petrol was available for the T6 initially, so any poll would have to be limited to only those who bought new and actively chose between the petrol & diesel versions. i.e. a petrol version was available to them.

A real shame it's being removed.
I've driven the 300bhp beast owned by @BognorMotors and it was one of the best vehicles I've driven, and a lot of fun.
Could I personally own one as a daily driver? No way! Far too expensive to run for a mobile business, that covers the whole UK, with an owner that has a heavy right foot.

Still loved the experience of driving it though.

i have heard (take with a grain of salt) that they discontinued because there's such a high demand for non diesel engines for other types of vehicles
apparently 10month for the amarok petrol!?
and they'd rather feed the other productions line with these petrol engines
People will buy the t6 diesel or not (i would have preferred a petrol, but signed Saturday for a diesel)

also they announced this removal in France end of july, beginning of august, it was one of the car program on "RMC" radio, so not just UK

I have a feeling that we may see a different, more fuel efficient petrol engine for next year ( IM hoping the Mk7 GTI engine, as its a big step up in economy). I presently have a TSI panel and kombi up for sale

I'm test driving a 150 deisel and petrol on Friday so I'll make a desision after that but a petrol is my first choice. I would prefer new though so might have to wait

I hired @BognorMotors tsi kombi for a few weeks and it was great fun and sounded awsome. However I found it a bit too lary for me, particulalry just being front wheel drive. I'm now in his Caravelle Exec at the moment and much prefer being back in 4motion. I would have a TSi 4motion though. Still waiting on my own van to be either sorted by Insurance or Written Off. Only been a month and a half so far....

I have just looked at the online VW configurator & the petrol engine still shows as an option for a panel van. However I have also looked at a Kombi on the same configurator & that only shows diesel engines.

For anyone still interested in petrol engines it is worth investigating further.

Does anyone have the definitive answer?

Seems like the wrong thing to do in the current anti-diesel climate. Spoke to UK Customer Services, but they couldn't tell me anything other than that it didn't appear on the website (which I had already discovered myself!)
