Part Number interchangeability

If a Part No, ie: 7EO 919 475 M, needs replacing does the new part need the exact same Part No, or can the end letter be different?
i‘ve seen 7EO 919 475 T and 7EO 919 475 K for sale are these compatible?
maybe @Pauly or someone else with part no guru status may know?

For this specific example - I guess they are interchangeable - based on data on IFI CP2 Message

But then e.g. 7E0 919 475 L or N definitely are not - because of different functionality (8 channels instead of 4 in the examples).

hi, does anyone know what the first letter at the end of the part number is for please, i ordered a mirror with AE on the end but they sent me it with BE on the end, allthough it doesnt give me an error when fitting it doesnt work correctly and wondered if it could be because its not the correct part number ? 3G0857511AE

Part numbers are made up of 9 digits followed by an optional character if the part has been revised/superceded and this can also be followed by a colour code if appropriate as per the format below
123 456 789 X abc

Because the part you received had a B on it, that means it is the updated version of what you needed.
It's also coming up as a Golf mirror

thank you , so it should work same as the A version then, so must be something else wrong somewhere :(

Not necessarily. VAG use letters for supersession as well as different fitments so for example on one of my other cars the A suffix is for the front wheel drive, B is for AWD.

That said, I've checked this for you and the only difference appears to be AE was fitted 2016 - 2018 and BE was fitted 2018 - 2021, they are both for the same "PR" numbers so either should fit BUT there's 300 quid difference between the two parts (BE isn't a supersession of AE). Bit odd but can't tell you why as there isn't the level of detail on VWs parts listing.

@phazer
So can I assume from what you are saying regarding part nos,
7E0843653BR could be replaced by any one of 7E0843653BQ, 7E0843653BJ, 7E0843653BN, 7E0843653BT etc etc and still work??

I'm afraid not. Can't assume part interchangeability or supersession on (any logic on) part number lettering. Need to verify from parts database.

An example of a listed part - AQ is superseded by BJ

7E0843653BR
Has not been superseded

and does not have the same functionality as
