Our tail gate doesnt stay open

We have just taken delivery of a converted T6 van. We have a fiamma bike rack on the tailgate which doesn't stay open, making it near impossible for me to load and unload by myself. The thing is, I'm sure it worked when we initially looked at the van a couple of weeks back. Does anyone have any advice on what to do? The company we bought it from isn't being very helpful.

Check the part number on the existing gas struts
When you got a bike rack you are supposed to upgrade the struts to stronger/stiffer ones

If they're not used for a while they get saggy too. Open and close it a few times and see how you go. If the spec struts to hold up a loaded bike rack, the tailgate becomes hard to shut with no bikes on........... Compromise.
