Presume your parents were stationed there? An ex colleague of mine is a Cypriot and was a child at the time - his account of the sectarian violence that preceded the invasion and the invasion itself are truly shocking.
Yeah, dad was at Episkopi / Akrotiri and we had a lovely house in Limassol. Until it all kicked off and we had to 'convoy' into the base, before repatriation to the UK.
We were kind of sheltered from it and as a kid, it was exciting but my parents told me it was very hairy on occasions with bullet flying around.
Felt really sorry for the local population as it really could have gone very very bad

Fortunately I live very rural, we are a bit self sufficient out here, it's not uncommon to see chaps swapping a couple of brace of pheasant for a bag of logs in the pub!
I rarely see any pronoun badges!
As a retiree, that sounds great. We're more semi-rural - surrounded by fields, great views, on the edge of a village, but not far from the nearst M&S foodhall. 🤪
