Morning
Looking for a good main dealers for my T6 servicing near Northampton.
I have used Northampton VW for a few years but all the staff have changed.... To school kids i think!
Took my 2000 T4 TDI in for a cam belt change last week, 2 days later they call me and tell me they dont know how to do it . They took it apart, and decided it wasnt possible for them to do , WHAT ? A VW dealer cant do a cam belt.. So you can see why i am looking for another service centre .
Cheers

Try APS at Brackley. They are the only folk where I will take my van and @ZipcodeUK does the same. Ask for Ed when you call them up. Really great bunch of guys and if you look at their Facebook site you’ll see the sort of vehicles they do (R8’s, RS6’s, Etc) they know their stuff and are competitively priced. If you go just tell Ed that you were recommended by Dave and Nic from the T6 Forum.

Thats great , i will call them next week. Northampton VW prices ware also massive, 80 quid to plug in vagcom, 18 quid for a oil top up , the list went on. Although they could not do the cam belt they did to try and give me a bill for this which i happily refused. Im still stunned at they incompetence.

That really is crap. I had to go there for a warranty replacement of tailgate high level brake light. Told them they were not to wash my van under any circumstances. Guess what..... yep, they washed it, despite a sign in the window saying do not wash!

I can't believe you would even contemplate taking any vehicle to a main dealer, they are just kids with computers now who couldn't care less. And they rip you off like no one else

They were very good when i used them before, a few of the mechanics knew about the T4s but they seem to have changed a lot of staff , like you say It seems they are just a bunch of kids with no clue unless the computer tells them what the problem is.

What’s the score with taking your van to a normal garage ? Obviously using oem parts etc but do VW get the face on when you need anything done under warranty??
Mines come up now with oil change due so will need some one soon. I’d prefer to use my usual car mechanic if possible.

For my new motors i always use main dealers if i can, i like the stamp in the book , it does make an easier sell when the time comes. This instance was for a cam belt on a 18 year old T4 , The belts on these models are not the easiest to get correct if you dont know what you are doing, and to be honest i got sick of using garages in the past that say they can do the job but can not , or mess it up. hence i thought main dealer was the way forward with the cam belt. How wrong can i be lol

You don’t have to go to main dealer to preserve warranty, you can use any garage as long as they are VAT registered, personally I would try and stick to a reasonable sized outlet who can stamp your book but as long as they use proper parts and do the job properly it has no bearing on your warranty etc

I do everything myself, always have. If you want something done right.... New van I've got 2 free services then it's up to me. I've worked at lots of different dealerships fixing mot equipment and car lifts, I've seen what goes on

Agree with what @DaveyB said. APS in brackley are excellent. They can service any vehicle including doing full engine replacements on r8, rs6, TT's, Porsche etc etc. I have a warranty service plan on my T6, but for ANY other work that I can't do the kombi goes to APS. I've been using them for 6+ years and always found them honest, fair and knowledgeable and they will use genuine parts too.

This is absolutely true, BUT, VW will not even consider any goodwill contribution to any out of warranty repairs if you've serviced your van somewhere else.
For the record, I HATE all VW commercial dealerships, and only take my new van there for the first service at two years just to save the considerable aggro they would make you go through if you needed a warranty claim on the third year.

With the T5 I had a cracking guy who looked after it with honesty and care, but he's moved on now & the business has packed in. Does anyone have any recommendations on an independent specialist in or around Northampton, please..? I should add, the T6 has replaced the old bus now..

Check out BeLow at Evans Autopoint.... they’re based in Kettering and specialise in Transporters

I wondered if there were any updates on recommended T6 servicing near Northampton, as this post is a few years old now? I have my MOT and a service due and since my vehicle is out of warranty I thought I’d look for a good trustworthy (cheaper) alternative to the main dealer.

Hi CaptainZag,

Did anyone offer a suggestion or did you find someone you would recommend?

Thanks Graham

Please could someone recommend a VW specialist in or around Northampton (not the main dealer though!)? I need some engine work doing and am looking for another quote/recommendation to compare with the main dealer.
