Media unit replace or repair

My unit was failing in the last few months the touch screen was not responsive so I thought having read some threads here it was a common thing and replacement was needed.
I contacted a couple of car/camper audio places they were costs just over £1k for supply and fit of a Pioneer Apple play unit.
I got a quote from Halford and they came in at £600, so went with them
10 weeks later two failed visits they gave up and refunded my money but I still got a parking notification from their parking management company as the van was parked on their forecourt for over 4 hours.

I then found a local guy who knew of these failed units in campervan as he done loads. He quoted for the unit will be repaired and put back as OEM for just over £460

It sounds like you have had an incredibly frustrating experience trying to resolve the unresponsive touchscreen issue on your campervan's head unit. Dealing with multiple failed installations and even a parking fine on top of that is less than ideal.

It's good that you eventually found a local specialist who seems confident in repairing your existing unit rather than replacing it with an aftermarket one that caused so many fitting issues.
Hopefully my HU will be fixed and installed back in the next couple of weeks.
As for Halfords Leicester awful service and the fact I have this parking issue hanging over me despite Halfords telling me it be cancelled leave me no confidence.
I duly asked for wasted 2 days of my time going down and they ran to the hills so if anyone here is thinking of using Halfords site don’t bother save you money and go to a smaller independent place!

Try these?

Isn’t this the problem that is solved by just placing a new touch screen digitiser over the original for about a tenner.

Sounds like it. £20 fix

Not £20 fix for me lets call it £450
If it’s the touch screen that’s failed (it usually is) then it’s a couple of hours and a £20 part from amazon. Anyone who’s reasonably competent with a screwdriver can do it. There’re loads of videos on YouTube.
Ps, I’m assuming it’s a MIB11

Well after a wait of 3 months my HU is finally restored to its working status
£400 odd but I have a 12 mth guarantee for piece of mind. Some might say more money than sense but I rather have it working than finding out I made basic errors in doing it myself
