Replacing one genuine damaged LED headlight - is coding required??

Hi - I'm repairing a 2023 T6.1that I've purchased and intend doing a full personalised camper conversion once I've completed the damage repairs.

The damage is to the O/S front - only collected the van yesterday and not had a chance to start pulling parts off to fully assess the damage but know I'm in deep and will be looking at inner wing pannels on the structural side of things - but I was pleasantly surprised to discover the van has factory LED headlights.

My question is if I fit a used genuine VW replacement headlight will this need to have a totally matching part number??
Also will any replacement unit need coding to the van or should it be plug and play?

Within the remains of my headlight I have located the part number but the ones I've found for sale so far have a different letter on the end of the part number (mine being 7L2.941.036.D) .

So do I need one with a part number ending with a 'D' ??

Thanks for any technical insight / advice.

I'll have a shot at this for you.
If replacement of headlight is from a known working unit, I dont believe you will need to code the headlight as the LCM will already have the correct dataset file loaded to it.
Like you said, you must make sure the LCM part numbers match the ones from your van. Both HW SW numbers that is.

You will need to run a diag test and reset any fault codes especially caused by the healight being damaged and unplugged.

7L2 is RHD so that will be correct. I dont think the last letter makes any difference.
The LCM is the most important part.

And if you buy a new LCM, you this will need to coded and have the correct dataset uploaded to it.

Hope this helps you.

I don't think the final letter will matter of its like the T6. They are just revision numbers
