Lowered T32 on 18" Sportlines?

Hi,
Our T6 T32 is sat on 18" Sportlines with stock suspension. The Mrs uses it for running kids and dogs around mainly so it never has any real weight in the back. The arch gap is considerable as you can see (about 150mm) and we have decided to get it lowered. Im just wondering if anyone has pictures of their van who has already done this. If we get a few different pictures with various heights then it will help me to see how much much we need it lowered by. I've seen lots of threads where people drop it by 40mm but I just don't think this would make a lot difference with it being such a big gap to start with. That might be fine if you carry a lot of weight but I don't think it will help us.

Lastly im from Gloucestershire so does anyone know of somewhere near by that deals in Transporter mods they can recommend. Not just for suspension but always handy to have a local garage who can help out.

Cheers
Mark

That does look very high
Mine is also a T32 with 18" sportlines
1st photo show it a couple of weeks after 1 bought it, stock suspension
2nd photo shows it with -40mm h&r springs (not a massive difference)

On both photos the van is empty, so yours does look high compared??

Cheers.....I keep thinking of going lower & getting koni's or similar....
But then I keep seeing swamper type wheels & also like the look of them, so am still deciding, quite happy with it as it is at the moment and am concentrating on finishing off the inside

Hi,

I’m not exactly on your doorstep, but not a million miles away either. I have many options available for suspension that can get you anywhere from 35mm to about 95mm down depending on what you decide. All offering excellent levels of comfort, ride quality and handling, although you do lose a bit of comfort past about 80mm or so.

Whilst suspension is one of the options I specialise in, it’s not just about suspension. There’s a lot we can do at the cave to improve your van. If you fancy going through some of the options I have available for you, send me a PM and we’ll chat about it there.

Cheers,

Chris.

Good shout Chris! I am terrible at geography - your place would probably be more convenient

Thanks @Superowls this is really helpful. I’d be really happy with how yours looks in the 2nd picture. That’s a nice looking van, don’t see many reds around.

I would take your van to @ChrisR to look at - something is not right. (By the way, I have no affiliation with him!!!)

Thanks Chris, I’ll be in touch.

Is there a way to tell if the suspension isn’t standard? If I post some pictures would it be obvious? I really know nothing about mechanics.
I’m not a suspension guru....but I believe the height measurement is from wheel centre to arch. Measure those all round and give @ChrisR a bell. If possible, have a look at the springs and be ready to describe them to him (colour, markings etc.) I am sure he could guide you from there. He will know factory settings and what are the best settings for your needs

If you can get some pics of the shocks and springs we should be able to see if it’s standard or not. As @JOG has said, if you measure from wheel centre to the top of the arch when parked on level and flat ground we can tell if the ride height is where it should be for a standard van.

This is a T32 4Motion on 30mm springs. We have just purchased this van, and I have to say even on 30mm and 18’s the ride is uncompromising. Springs are coming off and KWv1 going on. Getting the suspension right is the best money you will spend on your van with the biggest rewards - even though aesthetics is normally higher up people list (understandably). Coilovers give you the option to set the height where you wish, within the height range. We always carry out a hunter alignment with all suspension work.

I’d say yours is stock suspension (or maybe a slight lift) for a T32 looking at the pic, although if you are looking to change then let’s look forward not back.

Again we are not local, but we can literally cover every aspect of your vehicle modification and improvement. We have demo vehicles available so you can try before you buy, and always offer a courtesy vehicle. Check our socials out and reviews to give you an idea of our work. We have been specialising in transporters for 15+years. We keep all suspension kits on the shelf so can mail order and advise what route to go to if needed.

Best of luck with your search, this forum will help empty your wallet nicely.

Always available for a chat if it helps :)

Thanks for the considered reply. We are keen to make the van feel more car like if possible so it’s not just about the arch gap. Something just hasn’t seemed right since I started researching seeing lots of people dropping 30-40mm which would barely be noticeable on my van.

Just had a quick measure (in the dark) of centre hub to top of arch and its 490mm rear and 470mm front. If it has been raised it will just mean we don’t need to fit 80mm dropping coil overs necessarily.

Your handling will be horrible and the rear of the van will be “crashy”.....

you have a couple of people to call on Monday who can definitely make your van more car-like. Probably the best thing you could spend hard-earned cash on.

I don’t think it drives terribly now, it just feels like any other tall van I’ve driven.
If spending some cash improves the ride and look then it’ll be well worth it.

Front is about right for standard suspension. Rear seems slightly high, but not overly so if it’s an empty T32.

A KW V1 kit could be just what you need to give you the ride and handling you’re after. You can go between 35 and 65mm down with that kit and it will be more comfortable than standard, handle better and ride better. I have them in stock for supply only, or for fitment at the cave, which of course would include a full Hunter 4 wheel alignment. As a small business, I don’t have a fleet of demo vans available, but rest assured, I do have the right options available for you.

The problem, if you choose The Van Cave, is going to be that I’m closed for lockdown. As I am only a modification business and not an essential business, my workshop is closed until restrictions are eased. I can still sell you suspension for delivery or collection, but I can’t fit it at my workshop. I would still like the opportunity to help you choose the right suspension, so give me a call on 07791 045464 on Monday if you would like to discuss it further.

Cheers,

Chris.
