Look what some nice person did

Hope it all gets sorted.

The most painful thing is it wouldn’t surprise me if that ends up being a Cat S write off. The floor will be bent and ultimately the floor counts as “structural”, so insurance companies use every little clause in the play book to get the most money…

My neighbour had someone drive down the side of his van and it was classed as a Cat S write off even though there’s no damage underneath. He literally just hammered the dints out to an acceptable level and has carried on driving it. Got £14k payout and bought it back for £6k.

Wow thats a nice pot of money, but i would want the van not as cat s, i have argued with insurance company to get converters and body shop to sort it between then and finally they have done it.

so far insurance cost for repair quoted just under 10k

Fingers crossed they dont write it off

Fortunately he was insured
Anyone that hits another vehicle should be made to take a fresh theory and practical test.
Too many drivers are just not able these days and there are more vehicles on the road than ever before.
We need a system that filters the bad ones out.
Collisions hit the national economy, people’s own finances, affect people health and are a waste of resources. We shouldn’t be so accepting of it.

Health i can agree with ended up with neck issues.. if i were to say a speed it was a national speed limit road doing about 55 - 50 and i had to brake suddenly as two cars in front braked sharp to a halt i did the same… two seconds later wham.. it felt like he did not even brake. I agree with what you say but what else can you do other than accept it.. its happened its crap but as long as its gets repaired and im more thankful i was on my own.. no family in van at the time..

It’s happened and we can’t change that but it doesn’t need to happen.
I’ve been driving for over 30 years now and never hit another car, or a person or anything else, never had a parking or speeding ticket etc - it’s perfectly easy not to do these things. All one needs to do is pay attention and use a smidge of logic.
I now also ride motorcycles so I find the folk that can’t put there phone down when driving, or look but still don’t see to be even more upsetting- if I’m not thinking for myself and them then they will be the death of me. It shouldn’t be like this and there is no excuse. Driving really isn’t difficult at all and for those that find it so they simply should not have passed a test. The potential damage is too high.

In an ideal world, (which it isn't!) any driver who does this would have their phone examined by a police expert to see if it was being used at the time. It's all too common.
Sadly we know that Police don't have the resources to do this.

The dibble dont have the legislation that allows them to do so unless someone dies or is seriously injured.

In the early says of mobile phones we would seize them for examination if they disputed the offence, but because road criminals have more rights than potential victims wen had to stop doing it.

The law needs to be changed then. The number of accidents seems to be increasing. Especially on motorways like the M60, which regularly gets closed. I am convinced this is due to people looking at their mobiles (I actually saw a guy in the middle lane with an iPad resting on his steering wheel playing a driving game - I almost cant believe it myself).

I had a spell catching a bus at rush hour a few years back, I counted (on average) between 5 and 6 out of 10 drivers were holding and using their phones (on a busy A road).

Because you've never been caught. Everyone with a hole in their arse has glanced down at the speedo and gone "whoops" more than once.
To be honest I'd rather see somebody paying attention while doing 32 in a 30 than a driver who's sticking to the speed limit but spends half his time looking at what he's typing on the phone in his lap.

Don't judge everyone by your own standards. Controlling a vehicles velocity is one of rhe simplest, most fundamental tasks a driver is required to so, and some of us do pay close attention.

As a biker, you'll aware that the speedi s refeeted to as the idiot board. Better to be aware of what's going on around you.

Yep. Watch the speed, keep 2 seconds distance from the car ahead. Its basic stuff.
