Leisure Battery Qs

Hi all, first post - please go easy!

I have a slide out kitchen pod in my T6 kombi. It has a small tap, 2 x USB plugins and a 12V 'cig' lighter socket. I do not intend to add any other load to the circuit. I'd like to know what the most cost effective way of powering this pod is (i.e. do I need to spend £100s on a DC-DC charger set up).

An option (I think) is fitting a leisure battery to power the pod and having a 240v charger that I could plug in at home, at a site hookup or, in extremis, plugging into a 12V socket in the front of the van. Is that no go?

If the above is not viable I'd like to hear peoples thoughts on other (low cost) options?!

Thanks.

Look at this thread and its siblings. Everything you need to know is here and more.

I've looked through, but have not been able to establish whether my 'idea' is a realistic option.

It cost me £350 to add leisure battery with DC-DC charger. I think adding a leisure battery will give you piece of mind. You really do not want to flatten your starter battery by all accounts. I got all my stuff from Travelvolts. Battery, CTEK DC DC, Wiring kit and a bracket to secure battery under the seat. But your alternative may work okay for your needs as long as you remember to recharge your battery and/or remember to take charger and leads with you.

Where were you thinking of putting the EHU plug? Hiding it within the pod?

Could you get away with a removable battery box? There are tons on offer, but in the interest of the forum check out this thread.

I will definitely look into that - looks like it could work for me. Thank you!
