Just fettled the van after our 3 week ski trip to the Alps. I did the usual pre-rinse with the steam cleaner and noticed that the van was covered in rust spots. I normally get a few as they tend to stand out on a white van, but never seen it like this. I got out the Ferric spray and gave her a good dosing. Snow foam followed and then a hand job and rinse.
I can only put it down to the use of snow chains in the mountains, leaving heavy iron/steel deposits on the roads. Each one of those purple streaks is iron being dissolved off the paint.

Damn, that's a lot! When I got my van last September and gave it the first detail i found similar, although not that bad. Makes me wonder how much was in my old black car and I never noticed.

Out of interest, which fallout remover do you use?

It’s a young lad that runs his own business local to me. He did my Seramik coating when the van was new, 9 years ago. The water still beads off to this day. I bob in once or twice a year and stock up on beauty products

No, just snow chains. Even when it’s not snowing the utility/municipal vehicles, bin wagons/busses/snow ploughs etc. run snow chains throughout.
 
Makes an interesting visual. To think the amount of tyres on vehicles moving around the globe all shedding plastic :eek:

Did you cross the channel on the train? It could be from the trains brakes, they give off a lot of metallic dust.

Okay I don't think that is rust spots I think you have metal residue embedded in your clear coat from the road. If you give it a damn good wash and then get a clay bar on it to remove all residue and then maybe a good machine buff you should be fine. If you do all that and then still get the 'rust spots' despite a vigorous hand job then please feel free to chastise me

The fallout remover should remove all the bits of iron. I would always uses this as it reacts with and dissolves the bits of iron (the purple colour is a result of this reaction).
I wouldnt clay it without doing this as you run the risk of dragging bits of iron across the paint.

On that note, some friends had a flat overlooking London Bridge station, near the Shard. When you sat out on their balcony, you could taste the iron in the air. They had a young child and it was impossible to hang clothes out to dry on the balcony, due to the dust. Very worrying.

Yes but that's good iron, if iron comes from ICE cars it's bad, if it comes from public transport, it's good healthy stuff. Do keep up!

I neglected to mention the fallout remover before clay barring - well corrected sir
