How do I get van to regen?

Yeah - I panicked for the first year of owning the 'soon to fail DPF and EGR and Adblue' vehicle, then just figured if you have a diesel, then it is going to happen eventually. Not a lot you can do about it except get an older vehicle that will have its' own problems - as well as the dirtier exhaust.
C'est la vie

Yesterday, someone I know with a T6 pulled up. They turned the engine off while the DPF was doing a regen.
I told him that and he said 'whats a regen?'. He didn't know anything about DPF/EGR etc and I didn't think it was my place to add another worry onto another human bean's plate.
That is the state of zen I aim to be at.

Haha, I was the same after buying my "Dreaded Bi-Turbo"(DMZA) a little blind if I'm honest. Went through all the Oh F--k what have I bought stage. 2 years and 15k miles later, just enjoying the van and a lot wiser thanks to the Forum.👍

Van has now successfully regenerated. It started as soon as the soot level hit 30g and only took about 10 mins to burn off to 8g. Without the Carista I’m not sure I’d have noticed it though, didn’t really make any loud fan sounds or smell particularly until I got out and noticed it slightly. At least I know now hopefully when I need to give it a good run. Thanks everyone for the replies.

Just a quick tip.....
Mine usually regens on average every 200 miles - give or take. I set the odometer as my regen countdown device.
When it is going through a regen sometimes the only way I know is that at traffic lights the rev counter goes up to 1000rpm. Usually it is about 950rpm. Not a lot of difference but noticeable.
When I'm near the 200 mile mark, before switching off the engine I'll check the rev counter to see if it is sitting below 1000rpm.
(Sometimes I don't bother but) if I have the time/inclination, I'll take it for a 20 minute circuit to let it finish.

I think it is also possible to force a regen through VCDS or OBDeleven.
One day I may give it a try.
